Wherefore God being willing more abundantly to manifest unto the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it with an oath: that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to fail, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before us;
and every soul, who will not hearken to that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people: yea and all the prophets from Samuel, and those that followed, as many as have prophesied, have also foretold these days. Now ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant, which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, "And in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed:"read more.
and to you first God having raised up his son Jesus, sent Him to bless you; in your turning away every one of you from your iniquities.
And the scripture foreseeing that God would justify the gentiles through faith, preached the gospel to Abraham long ago, saying, "In thee shall all nations be blessed."
I therefore, a prisoner for the sake of the Lord, exhort you to walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all humility and meekness;
Only behave worthy of the gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you, or be absent, I may hear of you, that ye stand firm in one Spirit, striving together as with one soul for the saith of the gospel;
but let your conversation be yea, yea; no, no; for whatever is more than these, cometh from the evil one.
as we gave you in charge, that ye may walk decently toward those that are without, and may have need of no one's assistance.
He ought also to have an honorable testimony from those that are without, least he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
Remember your guides, who spake the word of God to you; whose faith imitate, considering the happy end of their conversation.
But above all, my brethren, swear not; neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor any other oath: but let your yea be yea, and your nay nay; that ye may not fall under condemnation.
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in holy conversation and godliness,
