"thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honour, and power: for thou hast created all things, by thy WILL they subsist, and were created."

saying with a loud voice, "worthy is the lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing."

of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: at the same time a voice was heard from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

from whence a voice issued out, saying, "this is my beloved son, obey him."

wherefore God has highly exalted and given him a name, which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus both angels and men, the living and the dead, should pay their adorations, and that every nation should confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, to the glory of God the father.

but Jesus, who was for a while inferior to the angels by his sufferings and death, we see was crown'd with glory and honour; when by the divine goodness, he had pass'd thro' death for every man.

but as the architect is of much greater dignity than the house he has made; so the glory which Christ received was greater than that of Moses.

for he received this honourable and glorious testimony from his father, when the voice broke out from the magnificent splendor, in these words, "this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased."

but even to the morose. for it is a recommendation to the divine favour, to suffer unjust persecution from a principle of conscience. what glory is there in suffering corporal punishment for real offences? but if you meet with ill usage for doing your duty, and bear it with constancy,

that your conduct may be worthy of the Lord, in every respect agreeable to him, being friutful in every kind of virtue, and increasing in divine knowledge:

I therefore the prisoner for the Lord, beseech you to live suitably to the offers that have been made to you: with all humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another in love;

conjuring you to live suitably to the favour of God, who has called you to his kingdom and glory.

The deacons too must be grave, not double tongued, not addicted to drinking, or sordid gain, but by their integrity maintain the reverence due to the gospel.

but what is agreeable to sound doctrine: advise the aged to be prudent, grave, temperate, sound in faith,

thou hast a few persons in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

only conduct yourselves in a manner becoming the gospel of Christ, that whether I come to see you, or else am absent, I may have this account of you, that you are stedfastly of the same resolution, and unanimously contend for the faith of the gospel,

we preach the gospel just as God thought fit to intrust it with us, not being studious to please men, but God, who approves our sincerity.

endeavour to approve yourself to God, as an artist that is not afraid of reproach, by rightly explaining the word of truth.

his lord said to him, well done, thou art an honest faithful servant; thou hast been faithful in a small trust, I will give thee a much larger trust; go in and partake of thy master's diversions. he also that had received two talents, came and said, Lord, you delivered to me two talents: here are two other talents which I have gain'd besides them. his lord said to him, well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful in a small trust, I will give thee a much larger trust: go in and partake of your master's joy.

If then there be a servant, appointed by his master to take care of his family, who faithfully and prudently distributes their allowance according to the establishment: happy is the servant, who shall be found so employed, at his master's return. I tell you, he shall make him steward of all his estate.

Jesus answered, if there be a faithful prudent steward, appointed by his master to give his domesticks their stated allowance; happy is such a servant, whom his master at his return shall find so employ'd. I assure you, he will intrust him with the management of his whole estate.

he answer'd, honest servant, that's well: since your industry has made so much of so little, I give you the government of ten cities.

Let the presbyters that govern well receive a double salary, especially those who are employ'd in preaching and instructing.

whatever city or town ye enter into, find out some house of repute, and there lodge till ye leave that place.

he that receives a prophet in quality of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receives a just man, as such, shall receive the reward of the just. and whoever shall give only a cup of cold water to the meanest of you, considering him as my disciple, shall most assuredly be far from losing his reward.

as becometh christians, and assist her in every thing her business requires: for she hath assisted many besides my self.
