And he said to them, Take heed and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will cleave to the one and neglect the other.

And Jesus looking round said to his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God? And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answering again saith to them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches, to enter into the kingdom of God? It is easier for a camel to go thro' the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

From whence come wars and fightings among you? Is it not hence, from your pleasures that war in your members? Ye desire and have not, ye kill, and envy, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war; yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Sell what ye have and give alms: provide yourselves purses which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound, every where and in every thing I am instructed, both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to want. I can do all things through Christ strengthening me.

Wo to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to have neglected the others.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Render therefore to all their due: tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honour to whom honour. Owe no man any thing, but to love another; for he that loveth another, hath fulfilled the law.
