For this Melchisedek king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him, To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all the spoils; being by interpretation, first king of righteousness, and then king of Salem also, which is king of peace; Without father, without mother, without pedigree, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life, but being made like the son of God, remaineth a priest continually.read more.
Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils, And verily they of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment (according to the law) to take tithes of the people, that is, of their brethren, tho' they come out of the loins of Abraham. But he whose pedigree is not from them, took tythes of Abraham, and blessed him who had the promises: And without all contradiction, the less is blessed of the greater. And here men that die receive tithes: but there, he of whom it is witnessed, that he liveth. And even Levi, who receiveth tithes, paid tithes (so to speak) thro' Abraham. For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedek met him.

Wo to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to have neglected the others.
