On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come.
For wisdom is protection just as money is protection,
But the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the lives of its possessors.
Divide your portion to seven, or even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth.
Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,
But righteousness delivers from death.
Here for this third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be a burden to you; for I do not seek what is yours, but you; for children are not responsible to save up for their parents, but parents for their children.
Neither their silver nor their gold
Will be able to deliver them
On the day of the Lord’s wrath;
And all the earth will be devoured
In the fire of His jealousy,
For He will make a complete end,
Indeed a terrifying one,
Of all the inhabitants of the earth.
When the money was all spent in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food, for why should we die in your presence? For our money is gone.”
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
You may spend the money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatever your heart desires; and there you shall eat in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice, you and your household.
When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look on?
Buy truth, and do not sell it,
Get wisdom and instruction and understanding.
A man with an evil eye hastens after wealth
And does not know that want will come upon him.
There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more,
And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
For to a person who is good in His sight He has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, while to the sinner He has given the task of gathering and collecting so that he may give to one who is good in God’s sight. This too is vanity and striving after wind.
Joseph gathered all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the grain which they bought, and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.
Then Jehoash said to the priests, “All the money of the sacred things which is brought into the house of the Lord, in current money, both the money of each man’s assessment and all the money which any man’s heart prompts him to bring into the house of the Lord,
Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles,
But the one who gathers by labor increases it.
But there was found in it a poor wise man and he delivered the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
No man can by any means redeem his brother
Or give to God a ransom for him—
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.”
“You will eat, but you will not be satisfied,
And your vileness will be in your midst.
You will try to remove for safekeeping,
But you will not preserve anything,
And what you do preserve I will give to the sword.
So I said, “Wisdom is better than strength.” But the wisdom of the poor man is despised and his words are not heeded.
House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers,
But a prudent wife is from the Lord.
The ants are not a strong people,
But they prepare their food in the summer;
I will most gladly spend and be expended for your souls. If I love you more, am I to be loved less?
Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;
He who increases his wealth by interest and usury
Gathers it for him who is gracious to the poor.
They will fling their silver into the streets and their gold will become an abhorrent thing; their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their appetite nor can they fill their stomachs, for their iniquity has become an occasion of stumbling.
You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes.”
and He instructed them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a mere staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belt—
Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hunter’s hand
And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.
and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name.
For he sees that even wise men die;
The stupid and the senseless alike perish
And leave their wealth to others.
And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day.
For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?
Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,
She considers a field and buys it;
From her earnings she plants a vineyard.
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons can live on the rest.”
