And it shall be - if the lawless man be, worthy of stripes, then shall the judge cause him to lie down and he beaten before him, according to the measure of his lawlessness, by number: forty stripes, may he give him not going beyond, - lest, if he do go beyond to smite him above these, with many stripes, then should thy brother be of no account in thine eyes.
And when a man shall smite his servant or his handmaid with a rod, and he die under his hand, he shall, surely be avenged;
The scoffer, thou shalt smite, and, the simple, will beware, but correct a man of intelligence - he will understand teaching.
For what sort of honour is it - if, committing sin, and being buffeted, ye endure it? But, if, doing good, and suffering, ye endure it, this, is thankworthy with God.
