But to those who have received the Call, whether Jews or Greeks, Christ, the Power of God and the Wisdom of God!
But the Lord came to my help and strengthened me, in order that, through me, the proclamation should be made so widely that all the Gentiles should hear it; and I was rescued 'out of the Lion's mouth.'
"How is it," replied the Samaritan woman, "that you who are a Jew ask for water from a Samaritan woman like me?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans).
But a Samaritan, traveling that way, came upon the man, and, when he saw him, he was moved with compassion.
And threw himself on his face at Jesus' feet, thanking him for what he had done; and this man was a Samaritan.
A woman of Samaria came to draw water; and Jesus said to her- - "Give me some to drink,"
Dear friends, I urge you, as pilgrims and strangers upon earth, to refrain from indulging the cravings of your earthly nature, for they make war upon the soul.
Show tact in your behavior to the outside world, making the most of every opportunity.
And he said: "To you the hidden truth of the Kingdom of God has been imparted; but to those who are outside it all teaching takes the form of parables, that--
What have I to do with judging those outside the Church? Is it not for you to judge those who are within the Church, While God judges those who are outside? 'Put away the wicked man from among you.'
Make it your ambition to live quietly, and to attend to your own business, and to work with your hands, as we directed you; So that your conduct may win respect from those outside the Church, and that you may not want for anything.
He should also be well spoken of by outsiders, that he may not incur censure and so fall into the snares of the Devil.
