But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.

And as He was praying in a certain retired place, as soon as He had done, one of his disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples. And He said unto them, when ye pray, say, "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done as in heaven so also upon earth; give us day by day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins,read more.
for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." And He said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine on his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him: and he from within shall answer and say, Do not be troublesome; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed, I cannot rise to give thee. I tell you, tho' he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend: yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he wants. And so I tell you, Ask and it shall be given you, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth, and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son ask bread of any father among you, will he give him a stone? and if he ask for a fish, will he instead of a fish give him a serpent? or if he ask for an egg, will he give him a scorpion? If ye then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the holy Spirit to them that ask Him?

And He spake also a parable to them, to shew that men ought always to pray, and not to faint: saying, There was a judge in a certain city, who neither feared God, nor regarded man. And there was a widow in that city, who came to him, saying, Do me justice of my adversary.read more.
And he would not for a time: but afterwards he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man, yet because this widow gives me trouble, I will do her justice, least by continually coming she weary me out. And the Lord said, hear what even the unjust judge saith: and will not God do justice for his elect that cry to Him day and night, though He bear long with them. I tell you, He will avenge them speedily. And yet when the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith in the land?

When Jesus had spoken these words, He lifted up his eyes to heaven and said,--- "Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify Thee: as Thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that as to all which Thou hast given Him, He might give them eternal life; and this is life eternal, to know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.read more.
I have glorified Thee on earth, I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do: and now, O Father, glorify Thou me with thine own self, with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was made. I have manifested thy name to the men, whom Thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and Thou gavest them to me, and they have kept thy word. And the glory which thou gavest me, I have given them: that they may be one, even as we are one. I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that Thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as Thou hast loved me. Father, I desire that they also, whom thou hast given me, may be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for Thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world indeed hath not known Thee: but I have known Thee, and these have known that Thou hast sent me. And I have made known to them thy name, and will farther make it known; that the love wherewith Thou hast loved me, may be in them, and I also in them.

On the morrow, while they were on their journey, and drawing near to the city, Peter went up on the top of the house to pray, about the sixth hour.

And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting till this hour, and at the ninth hour I was praying in my house, when behold a man stood before me in bright raiment,

And in the morning, before it was light, He rose up and went out, and retired into a solitary place, and there prayed.

and when He had sent them away, He retired into a mountain to pray.

And when the evening was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and He alone upon the land:

But the fame of Him spread more and more, and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities.

But He frequently retired into solitary places, and prayed.

And in those days He went out to a mountain to pray, and He continued all night in prayer to God.

And it came to pass, as He was praying in private, his disciples were with Him: and He asked them saying, Whom say the people that I am?

And when He was withdrawn from them about a stone's-cast, He kneeled down and prayed saying,

Father, if thou art willing take away this cup from me---nevertheless, not my will but thine be done.
