For there are many unruly men, vain-talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,

their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips;

And the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity! the tongue is placed among our members, as that which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of life, and is set on fire by Hell.

For I fear, lest by any means, when I come, I should find you not such as I desire, and that I, too, should be found by you such as ye do not desire; lest, by any means, there should be strife, jealousy, wraths, factions, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults;

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and reviling, be put away from you, with all wickedness;

For, "He who wishes to love life, and to see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking guile;

Having, therefore, put away all wickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisy, and envies, and all evil speakings,
