God then said to Moses: [I exist and] I WILL BE WHO I WILL BE. You shall say to the sons of Israel: I WILL BE, has sent me to you.' (Hebrew: hayah, I was, I am, I will be gives evidence of God's eternal existence)
Moses responded: What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say: 'Jehovah has not appeared to you.' Jehovah asked him: What is that in your hand? He answered: A shepherd's staff. Jehovah said: Throw it on the ground. When Moses threw it on the ground, it became a snake, and he ran away from it.
But Moses replied: I am not a powerful speaker. If the sons of Israel will not listen to me, why should the king of Egypt?
Jehovah answered him: Go in the strength you have and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you. Gideon replied: But Jehovah, how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the tribe of Manasseh. I am the least important member of my family.
Saul replied: I am a man from the tribe of Benjamin. It is the smallest tribe of Israel. My family is the most insignificant of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin. Why are you saying such things to me?
Samuel said to Saul: You are little in your own eyes. Even though you are a leader of all of the tribes of Israel that Jehovah anointed king over Israel.
David answered: Who am I? What is my family that I should be the king's son-in-law?
God has not given us a spirit of timidity (fear), but of power and love and discipline.
Now if Timothy comes, see that he may be with you without fear, for he works the work of God, as I also do. Let no one despise him. But conduct him in peace that he may come to me, for I look for him with the brothers.
