whilst Jesus was at the stern, asleep on a pillow: upon which they awak'd him, crying out, master, have you so little concern to let us sink? then he rose,

but finding the wind boisterous, he was afraid: and beginning to sink, cried out, Lord, save me.

and when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were in a terrible fright.

then the woman, conscious of what had been effected in her, came trembling with fear, and falling down before him, confess'd the whole truth.

upon their entring into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting towards the right, cloathed in a long white garment: at which they were frighted.

I therefore direct you, not to be sollicitous, with regard to life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor with regard to the body, what clothes ye shall wear: Is not life it self a greater gift than food; and the body a greater gift than rayment? consider the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor lay up any stores; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much greater value than they? who by all his sollicitude can add one moment to his age? read more.
And as for rayment, why should that give you pain? consider the lillies of the field how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin. and yet I tell you, even Solomon with all his magnificence, was not arrayed like one of these. now if God thus adorns the flower of the field, which thriving to day, is to morrow thrown into the oven, how much more shall he provide for you, if you have any degree of faith? therefore make no such sollicitous enquiries, as what shall we eat? or what shall we drink? or how shall we be clothed? things which the Gentiles are so thoughtful about, and which your heavenly Father knows that you want. but first seek the kingdom of God, and that righteousness which leads to it, and all these things shall be superadded. be not therefore sollicitous about the morrow: for the morrow shall be taken up with the cares of the morrow, the trouble of the day is sufficient for one day.

Let not your heart be troubled: you trust in God, trust also in me.

the Lord is coming: be not in any manner of sollicitude, but in all your occasions lay your requests before God by prayer and supplication accompany'd by thanksgiving.

refer all your disquietudes to him, for you are the objects of his care.

Before he had done speaking, messengers came from the ruler of the synagogue's house, who said, "your daughter is dead, why do you give the master any further trouble?" Jesus, upon hearing that, immediately said to the ruler of the synagogue, "be not afraid, only believe."

The same day Jesus went on board a vessel with his disciples, and said to them, let us pass over to the other side of the lake: and so they put off to sea. while they were rowing, Jesus fell asleep: when there blew such a storm of wind upon the lake, as fill'd the boat with water, and endanger'd their lives. then they came to wake him, crying, master, master, we are sinking. then he rose up, and rebuked the wind, and the waves: and both subside to a calm.

When he went aboard the vessel, his disciples followed him. and on a sudden so great a storm arose at sea, that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. and his disciples came and awaked him, saying, Lord, save us: we are sinking. read more.
and he answer'd, why are you afraid, o incredulous people? then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

when they had dismiss'd the people, the bark he was in, set sail, in company with other small barks. at length a violent storm ensued, and the waves beat into the ship, that it began to fill, whilst Jesus was at the stern, asleep on a pillow: upon which they awak'd him, crying out, master, have you so little concern to let us sink? then he rose, read more.
and rebuked the wind, hush, said he, and be still. immediately the wind subsides, and a settled calm ensued.

Jesus answered them, you now believe. but, alas, the time is coming, yea, is already come, when ye shall be dispers'd every one to his own retreat, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the father is with me. these things I have appriz'd you of, that ye might repose your confidence in me. the world shall give you trouble: but take courage, I have overcome the world.

Jesus answered him, he that loves me, will observe my precepts: and my father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. he does not love me, who does not observe my precepts: for the doctrine which you have heard, is not mine, but the father's who sent me. this is what I have to tell you, for the little time that I am with you. read more.
but the advocate, the holy spirit, whom the father will send for my sake, he will explain every thing to you, and make you remember, all that I have told you. I bid you farewell! I give you my last farewell; but I do not give it out of common formality: don't be concern'd for me, or apprehensive for your selves.

whilst they were in great perplexity about it, all of a sudden, two men appear'd before them in robes of light. upon which they were frightned, and bowed themselves to the very ground: but the men said to them, why do you look among the dead for one that is alive? he is not here, but is risen: remember what he told you, when he was yet in Galilee, read more.
that the son of man must be deliver'd into the hands of sinful men; be crucified; and the third day rise again. then they remembred his words; and upon their return from the sepulchre, they related the whole matter to the eleven, and all the other disciples.

whereupon some of us went to the sepulchre, and found matters just as the women had related; but him they did not see. then Jesus said to them, how stupidly incredulous are you not to believe things that have been all predicted by the prophets! was not the Messiah to have suffer'd thus, and after that enter into his glory? read more.
then beginning at Moses he explain'd all the passages there, and in all the prophets, which related to himself. and they drew nigh the village where they were going: and he seemed as if he would have pass'd on further. but they press'd him, saying, stay with us, for it is late and begins to be dark. so he went in to tarry with them. and as he was at table with them, he took bread, and gave thanks, then brake it and gave it to them; when looking upon him more intently, they perceiv'd that it was Jesus. but he vanish'd out of sight.

While they were thus talking, Jesus himself appear'd in the midst of them, and said to them, peace be with you. but they were in a consternation and fright, imagining, that they saw a spirit. upon which he said to them, why are you in this confusion? what is it, that your minds are so perplex'd? read more.
behold my hands, and my feet. for I am bodily present, touch me and consider me; for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see me have: all the while holding out his hands and his feet, as he was speaking.

and that you, who are distress'd, should obtain your repose, together with us, when the Lord Jesus, with his angels, the ministers of his power, shall descend from heaven,

At evening his disciples came to him, saying, this is a desert place, and dinner-time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go to buy themselves provisions in the villages.

Jesus replied, do you your selves give them something to eat. shall we go then, said they, to purchase bread, to the value of two hundred denarii, for them to eat?

yet now I advise you to discard your fears: your lives are all safe, though the vessel will be lost. for an angel of that God, whose minister I am, and whom I serve, this night appear'd to me, and said, Paul, be not afraid: you must be brought before Cesar: and upon your account, the whole company now with you, will God preserve. read more.
take courage then, my friends, for I have this confidence in God, that what has been told me, shall be effected,

but the crew under pretext of dropping their anchors to moor, had hoisted out the boat; designing to make off: upon this Paul said to the centurion and his men, "except the crew stay aboard, you can't be safe:" and immediately the soldiers chopt the cable, and set the boat adrift. read more.
while they were waiting for day, Paul advis'd the whole company to take some refreshment: "these fourteen days, said he, you have been very abstemious, and not made a meal: therefore, pray, take something to recruit your strength: and be assur'd every one of you shall be preserv'd." having said this, he took bread, and gave thanks to God, the whole company present: then he broke it and began to eat, at which they all took heart and fell a eating likewise,

but Mary stood at the entrance of the cave weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down to look into the sepulchre, and saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, the one at the head, the other at the feet. and they said to her, woman, why do you weep? "because, said she, they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him." read more.
having thus said, she turned about, and saw Jesus standing, but knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, woman, why do you weep? who do you look for? she supposing him to be the gardener, said to him, sir, if it be you that have convey'd him away; tell me where you have laid him, and I will take care to have him remov'd. Jesus said to her, Mary! she bowing her self, cry'd rabboni! that is to say, master! Jesus said to her, touch me not: for I am not yet ascended to my father: but go to my brethren, and say to them, "I ascend unto my father and your father, even my God and your God."
