For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. It is written: He catches the wise in their own craftiness (deception). (Job 5:13)

This wisdom is not a wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and devilish.

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened. They realized they were naked. He catches the wise with their own craftiness. The plans of schemers are quickly halted.

Are all these words to go unanswered? Is this talker to be vindicated?

An empty headed man can no more become wise than a wild donkey's colt can be born a man.

Therefore men respect him! He shows no partiality to the wise at heart.

Do not think you are wise enough. Respect Jehovah and turn away from evil.

Folly is joy to the destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walks uprightly. Without counsel plans fail. But in the multitude of counselors they are established.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end is the way of death!

A rich person is wise in his own eyes, but the poor who has understanding, sees right through him.

You think what you do in the dark cannot be seen. So you ask: Who sees us, who knows us? You have it all backwards. A clay dish does not say to the potter, You did not make me. And should the one made say to the maker, You do not understand?

You felt sure of yourself in your evil. You thought that no one could see you. Your wisdom and knowledge led you astray. Then you said to yourself: 'I am God! There is no one else like me.' Disaster will come upon you, and none of your magic can stop it. Ruin will come on you suddenly, ruin you never dreamed of!

Even storks know when it is time to return. Mourning doves, swallows (swifts), and cranes know when it is time to migrate. But my people do not know that I, Jehovah, am urging them to return. How can you say you are wise and that you have Jehovah's Laws? The scribes have used their pens to spread falsehoods. Wise people are put to shame, confused, and trapped. They have rejected the word of Jehovah. They do not really have any wisdom.

This is what Jehovah says: Do not let wise people brag about their wisdom. Do not let strong people brag about their strength. Do not let rich people brag about their riches. If they want to brag, instead let them advocate (glory) (celebrate) that they understand and know me. They should advocate that I, Jehovah, act out of love, righteousness, and justice on the earth. This kind of celebration pleases me, declares Jehovah.

This is what Jehovah of Hosts says about Edom: Is there no longer any wisdom in Teman? Has wisdom disappeared from your people? Has their wisdom vanished?

But if your eye is wicked, your body will be in darkness. If that light in you is really darkness, how great a darkness it must be.

Then Jesus prayed: I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth. You have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and have revealed them to children. (Acts 2:36)

for when they knew God, they did not glorify him as God. They did not thank him and were vain in their reasoning, for their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools. They changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.

My speech and my preaching were not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not exist in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. How is it we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, or of the rulers of this age, who come to nothing (are doomed to destruction)? We speak the wisdom of God in a secret, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the ages (generations and human entities) for our glory. None of the rulers of this age knew (understood) for had they known it they would not have impaled the glorious Lord (esteemed Master). This is so we might know the things that are freely given to us from God. We speak these things, not in the words that man's wisdom teaches. But we speak them with the words the Holy Spirit teaches comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God. They are foolishness to him! He cannot know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

See to it that no one enslaves you by means of philosophy and worthless deceit of human wisdom according to tradition of men. It is according to the elementary principles of the world, and not from Christ.

O Timothy, guard that which is committed to you. Turn away from the empty speeches that violate what is holy and from opposition and from false knowledge. Some have professed this knowledge and erred concerning the faith. Grace be with you.

How is it we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, or of the rulers of this age, who come to nothing (are doomed to destruction)?

All the promises of God in him are yes. Also in his is the Amen, to the glory of God through us.

These have, indeed, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body. But these are not of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
