'Prophesy' in the Bible
On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?’
for all the prophets and the law till John did prophesy,
Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
and he answering said to them -- 'Well did Isaiah prophesy concerning you, hypocrites, as it hath been written, This people with the lips doth honour Me, and their heart is far from Me;
And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
And Zacharias his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and did prophesy, saying,
And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
And this he said not of himself, but being chief priest of that year, he did prophesy that Jesus was about to die for the nation,
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began to speak in other languages and to prophesy.
And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
Now I wish that all of you could speak in foreign languages, but especially that you could prophesy. The person who prophesies is more important than the person who speaks in a foreign language, unless he interprets it so that the church may be built up.
so that the tongues are for a sign, not to the believing, but to the unbelieving; and the prophesy is not for the unbelieving, but for the believing,
But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
And prophesy also to these did the seventh from Adam -- Enoch -- saying, 'Lo, the Lord did come in His saintly myriads,
And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
They have power given to them to seal up the sky, so that no rain may fall so long as they continue to prophesy; and power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to smite the earth with various plagues whenever they choose to do so.
