If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters, and even his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever does not bear his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
This he spoke, signifying by what death he should clarify God. And when he had spoken this, he said unto him, Follow me.
That I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death,
Since the Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, be ye also armed with the same thought; for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
But it shall not be so among you, but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your slave, even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.
But it shall not be like this among you, for whosoever desires to make himself great among you shall be your servant; and whosoever of you that desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to serve and to give his life in ransom for many.
Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and ye shall find rest for your souls.
Then, sitting down, he called the twelve and said unto them, If anyone desires to be first, the same shall be last of all and servant of all.
And there was also a contention among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. Then he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those that exercise authority upon them are called well-doers. But ye shall not be so, but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is prince, as he that doth serve.
If I then, the Lord and the Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you.

In this we have known the charity of God because he laid down his life for us; we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
