Do you not know that those who run in the stadium all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. And everyone who competes exercises self-control in all [things]. Thus those [do so] in order that they may receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable [one]. Therefore I run in this way, not as [running] aimlessly; I box in this way, not as beating the air.read more.
But I discipline my body and subjugate [it], lest somehow [after] preaching to others, myself should become disqualified.

My brothers, these [things] ought not to be so! A spring does not pour forth from the same opening fresh and bitter [water, does it]? A fig tree is not able, my brothers, to produce olives, or a grapevine figs. Neither can a saltwater spring produce fresh water.
Do not destroy the work of God on account of food. All [things] [are] clean, but [it is] wrong for the person {who eats and stumbles in the process}. [It is] good not to eat meat or to drink wine or [to do anything] by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is weakened.

He has no greater [authority] in this house than me, and he has not withheld anything from me except you, since you [are] his wife. Now how could I do this great wickedness and sin against God?" And it happened [that] as she spoke to Joseph {day after day}, he did not heed her to lie beside her or to be with her.read more.
{But one particular day} he came into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house were there in the house, she seized him by his garment [and] said, "Lie with me!" And he left his garment in her hand and fled, and he went outside.

Now {Daniel resolved} that he would not defile himself with the fine food of the king, and with {the wine that he drank}, and [so] he requested from the commander of the court officials [permission so] that he would not defile himself.
Therefore, if food causes my brother to sin, I will never eat meat {forever}, in order that I may not cause my brother to sin.
And if your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw [it] from you! For it is better for you that one of your members be destroyed than your whole body be thrown into hell.
And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out! It is better [for] you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than, having two eyes, to be thrown into hell,
Now those {who belong to Christ} have crucified the flesh together with its feelings and its desires.

Let no one condemn you, taking pleasure in humility and the worship of angels, going into detail [about] [the things] which he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind,
For who [is] our hope or joy or crown of boasting? [Is it] not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at his coming?
Finally, the crown of righteousness is reserved for me, that the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing.
Blessed [is] the person who endures testing, because [when he] is approved he will receive the crown of life that he has promised to those who love him.
And [when] the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
Do not be afraid of [the things] which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw [some] of you into prison so that you may be tested, and you will experience affliction ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
I am coming quickly! Hold fast to what you have, so that no one may take away your crown.
