'People' in the Bible

And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are in no way least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.'"

Then people from Jerusalem, as well as all Judea and all the region around the Jordan, were going out to him,

So a report about him spread throughout Syria. People brought to him all who suffered with various illnesses and afflictions, those who had seizures, paralytics, and those possessed by demons, and he healed them.

"You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its flavor, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled on by people.

People do not light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.

Just then some people brought to him a paralytic lying on a stretcher. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Have courage, son! Your sins are forgiven."

From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and forceful people lay hold of it.

The people of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented when Jonah preached to them -- and now, something greater than Jonah is here!

For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

Then he came to his hometown and began to teach the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, "Where did this man get such wisdom and miraculous powers?

But if we say, 'From people,' we fear the crowd, for they all consider John to be a prophet."

For this reason I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.

and elaborate greetings in the marketplaces, and to have people call them 'Rabbi.'

"But woe to you, experts in the law and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You keep locking people out of the kingdom of heaven! For you neither enter nor permit those trying to enter to go in.

For in those days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark.

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people met together in the palace of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas.

But they said, "Not during the feast, so that there won't be a riot among the people."

While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent by the chief priests and elders of the people.

When he went out to the gateway, another slave girl saw him and said to the people there, "This man was with Jesus the Nazarene."

When it was early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people plotted against Jesus to execute him.

Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: "They took the thirty silver coins, the price of the one whose price had been set by the people of Israel,

So give orders to secure the tomb until the third day. Otherwise his disciples may come and steal his body and say to the people, 'He has been raised from the dead,' and the last deception will be worse than the first."

People from the whole Judean countryside and all of Jerusalem were going out to him, and he was baptizing them in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins.

The people there were amazed by his teaching, because he taught them like one who had authority, not like the experts in the law.

Some people came bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them.

So he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Stand up among all these people."

I tell you the truth, people will be forgiven for all sins, even all the blasphemies they utter.

Now the herdsmen ran off and spread the news in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened.

But Jesus did not permit him to do so. Instead, he said to him, "Go to your home and to your people and tell them what the Lord has done for you, that he had mercy on you."

While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue ruler's house saying, "Your daughter has died. Why trouble the teacher any longer?"

They came to the house of the synagogue ruler where he saw noisy confusion and people weeping and wailing loudly.

He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. He gave them to his disciples to serve the people, and he divided the two fish among them all.

As they got out of the boat, people immediately recognized Jesus.

He said to them, "Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

People were completely astounded and said, "He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak."

His disciples answered him, "Where can someone get enough bread in this desolate place to satisfy these people?"

Regaining his sight he said, "I see people, but they look like trees walking."

Then Jesus and his disciples went to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that I am?"

Now people were bringing little children to him for him to touch, but the disciples scolded those who brought them.

Some people standing there said to them, "What are you doing, untying that colt?"

John's baptism -- was it from heaven or from people? Answer me."

But if we say, 'From people -- '" (they feared the crowd, for they all considered John to be truly a prophet).

Then he sat down opposite the offering box, and watched the crowd putting coins into it. Many rich people were throwing in large amounts.

For they said, "Not during the feast, so there won't be a riot among the people."

During the feast it was customary to release one prisoner to the people, whomever they requested.

Now the whole crowd of people were praying outside at the hour of the incense offering.

And he will go as forerunner before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him."

Now the people were waiting for Zechariah, and they began to wonder why he was delayed in the holy place.

"This is what the Lord has done for me at the time when he has been gracious to me, to take away my disgrace among people."

"Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, because he has come to help and has redeemed his people.

But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid! Listen carefully, for I proclaim to you good news that brings great joy to all the people:

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among people with whom he is pleased!"

While the people were filled with anticipation and they all wondered whether perhaps John could be the Christ,

And in this way, with many other exhortations, John proclaimed good news to the people.

Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized. And while he was praying, the heavens opened,

So he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he began to teach the people.

and so were James and John, Zebedee's sons, who were Simon's business partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people."

"Woe to you when all people speak well of you, for their ancestors did the same things to the false prophets.
