Woe To The Evil Shepherds

1 The Lord says, "The leaders of my people are sure to be judged. They were supposed to watch over my people like shepherds watch over their sheep. But they are causing my people to be destroyed and scattered.

1 (A)Woe to the shepherds who are (B)destroying and scattering the (C)sheep of My pasture!” declares the Lord.

1 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.

1 “Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!”(A) This is the Lord’s declaration.

1 "How terrible for the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!" declares the LORD.

2 So the Lord God of Israel has this to say about the leaders who are ruling over his people: "You have caused my people to be dispersed and driven into exile. You have not taken care of them. So I will punish you for the evil that you have done. I, the Lord, affirm it!

2 Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel concerning the shepherds who are (a)tending My people: “You have scattered My flock and driven them away, and have not attended to them; behold, I am about to (D)attend to you for the (E)evil of your deeds,” declares the Lord.

2 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD.

2 “Therefore, this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says about the shepherds who shepherd My people: You have scattered My flock, banished them, and have not attended to them.(B) I will attend to you because of your evil acts”—this is the Lord’s declaration.

2 Therefore, this is what the LORD God of Israel says about the shepherds who are shepherding my people, "You have scattered my flock and driven them away. You haven't taken care of them, and now I'm about to take care of you because of your evil deeds," declares the LORD.

3 Then I myself will regather those of my people who are still alive from all the countries where I have driven them. I will bring them back to their homeland. They will greatly increase in number.

3 “Then I Myself will (F)gather the remnant of My flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and bring them back to their pasture, and they will be fruitful and multiply.

3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.

3 “I will gather the remnant of My flock from all the lands where I have banished them, and I will return them to their grazing land. They will become fruitful and numerous.(C)

3 "I'll gather the remnant of my flock from all the countries where I've driven them, and bring them back to their pasture where they'll be fruitful and increase in numbers.

4 I will install rulers over them who will care for them. Then they will no longer need to fear or be terrified. None of them will turn up missing. I, the Lord, promise it!

4 I will also raise up (G)shepherds over them and they will (b)tend them; and they will (H)not be afraid any longer, nor be terrified, (I)nor will any be missing,” declares the Lord.

4 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.

4 I will raise up shepherds over them who will shepherd them.(D) They will no longer be afraid or dismayed, nor will any be missing.” This is the Lord’s declaration.

4 I'll raise up shepherds over them, and they'll shepherd them. My flock will no longer be afraid or terrified, and none will be missing," declares the LORD.

The Righteous Branch

5 "I, the Lord, promise that a new time will certainly come when I will raise up for them a righteous branch, a descendant of David. He will rule over them with wisdom and understanding and will do what is just and right in the land.

5 “Behold, the (J)days are coming,” declares the Lord,“When I will raise up for David a righteous (c)(K)Branch; And He will (L)reign as king and (d)act wiselyAnd (M)do justice and righteousness in the land.

5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

5 “The days are coming”(E)—this is the Lord’s declaration—“when I will raise up a Righteous Branch of David.(F)He will reign wisely as kingand administer justice and righteousness in the land.(G)

5 "The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I'll raise up a righteous branch for David. He will be a king who rules wisely, and he will administer justice and righteousness in the land.

6 Under his rule Judah will enjoy safety and Israel will live in security. This is the name he will go by: 'The Lord has provided us with justice.'

6 “In His days Judah will be saved,And (N)Israel will dwell securely; And this is His (O)name by which He will be called,‘The (P)Lord our righteousness.’

6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

6 In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely.(H)This is what He will be named:Yahweh Our Righteousness.(I)

6 In his time Judah will be delivered and Israel will dwell in safety. This is the name by which he will be known: "The LORD Our Righteousness.'

7 "So I, the Lord, say: 'A new time will certainly come. People now affirm their oaths with "I swear as surely as the Lord lives who delivered the people of Israel out of Egypt."

7 (Q)Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when they will no longer say, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought up the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt,’

7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

7 “The days are coming”—the Lord’s declaration—“when it will no longer be said, ‘As the Lord lives who brought the Israelites from the land of Egypt,’(J)

7 "Therefore, the time is coming," declares the LORD, "when people will no longer say, "As surely as the LORD lives who brought up the Israelis from the land of Egypt,'

8 But at that time they will affirm them with "I swear as surely as the Lord lives who delivered the descendants of the former nation of Israel from the land of the north and from all the other lands where he had banished them." At that time they will live in their own land.'"

8 (R)but, ‘As the Lord lives, who (S)brought up and led back the descendants of the household of Israel from the north land and from all the countries where I had driven them.’ Then they will live on their own soil.”

8 But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

8 but, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought and led the descendants of the house of Israel from the land of the north and from all the other countries where I(a) had banished them.’ They will dwell once more in their own land.”(K)

8 but they'll say, "As surely as the LORD lives who brought the descendants of the Israelis from the land of the north and from all the lands where I had driven them and brought them into the land.' Then they'll live in their own land."

The Unfaithful Prophets

9 Here is what the Lord says concerning the false prophets: My heart and my mind are deeply disturbed. I tremble all over. I am like a drunk person, like a person who has had too much wine, because of the way the Lord and his holy word are being mistreated.

9 As for the prophets:My (T)heart is broken within me,All my bones tremble;I have become like a drunken man,Even like a man overcome with wine,Because of the LordAnd because of His holy words.

9 Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the LORD, and because of the words of his holiness.

9 Concerning the prophets:My heart is broken within me,(L)and all my bones tremble.I have become like a drunkard, like a man overcome by wine, because of the Lord, because of His holy words.

9 Concerning the prophets: My heart is broken within me, and all my bones shake. I'm like a drunk man, like a person overcome with wine, because of the LORD, and because of his holy words.

10 For the land is full of people unfaithful to him. They live wicked lives and they misuse their power. So the land is dried up because it is under his curse. The pastures in the wilderness are withered.

10 For the land is full of (U)adulterers; For the land (V)mourns because of the curse. The (W)pastures of the wilderness have dried up.Their course also is evilAnd their might is not right.

10 For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right.

10 For the land is full of adulterers;(M)the land mourns because of the curse, and the grazing lands in the wilderness have dried up.Their way of life(b) has become evil, and their power is not rightly used

10 Indeed, the land is full of adulterers. Indeed, the land mourns because of the curse; the pastures of the wilderness have dried up. The adulterers' lifestyles are evil, and they use their strength for what is not right.

11 Moreover, the Lord says, "Both the prophets and priests are godless. I have even found them doing evil in my temple!

11 “For (X)both prophet and priest are polluted;Even in My house I have found their wickedness,” declares the Lord.

11 For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.

11 because both prophet and priest are ungodly,(N)even in My house I have found their evil. This is the Lord’s declaration.

11 Indeed, both priest and prophet are ungodly. Even in my house I find evil," declares the LORD.

12 So the paths they follow will be dark and slippery. They will stumble and fall headlong. For I will bring disaster on them. A day of reckoning is coming for them." The Lord affirms it!

12 “Therefore their way will be like (Y)slippery paths to them,They will be driven away into the (Z)gloom and fall down in it;For I will bring (AA)calamity upon them,The year of their punishment,” declares the Lord.

12 Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.

12 Therefore, their way will be to themlike slippery paths in the gloom.(O)They will be driven away and fall down there, for I will bring disaster on them, the year of their punishment. This is the Lord’s declaration.

12 Therefore their way will be slippery. They'll be driven out into the darkness, where they'll fall. For I'll bring disaster on them, the year of their judgment," declares the LORD.

13 The Lord says, "I saw the prophets of Samaria doing something that was disgusting. They prophesied in the name of the god Baal and led my people Israel astray.

13 “Moreover, among the prophets of Samaria I saw an (AB)offensive thing:They (AC)prophesied by Baal and (AD)led My people Israel astray.

13 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.

13 Among the prophets of SamariaI saw something disgusting:They prophesied by(c) Baaland led My people Israel astray.(P)

13 "Among the prophets of Samaria I saw a disgusting thing, for they prophesied by Baal and led my people Israel astray.

14 But I see the prophets of Jerusalem doing something just as shocking. They are unfaithful to me and continually prophesy lies. So they give encouragement to people who are doing evil, with the result that they do not stop their evildoing. I consider all of them as bad as the people of Sodom, and the citizens of Jerusalem as bad as the people of Gomorrah.

14 “Also among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a (AE)horrible thing:The committing of (AF)adultery and walking in falsehood; And they strengthen the hands of (AG)evildoers,So that no one has turned back from his wickedness. All of them have become to Me like (AH)Sodom,And her inhabitants like Gomorrah.

14 I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.

14 Among the prophets of Jerusalem alsoI saw a horrible thing:They commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, and none turns his back on evil. They are all like Sodom(Q) to Me;Jerusalem’s residents are like Gomorrah.

14 Among the prophets of Jerusalem I saw a horrible thing, for they commit adultery and live a lie. They strengthen the hands of those who do evil, so that no one repents of his evil. All of them are like Sodom to me, and her residents like Gomorrah."

15 So then I, the Lord who rules over all, have something to say concerning the prophets of Jerusalem: 'I will make these prophets eat the bitter food of suffering and drink the poison water of judgment. For the prophets of Jerusalem are the reason that ungodliness has spread throughout the land.'"

15 “Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets,‘Behold, I am going to (AI)feed them wormwoodAnd make them drink poisonous water,For from the prophets of JerusalemPollution has gone forth into all the land.’”

15 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.

15 Therefore, this is what the Lord of Hosts says concerning the prophets:I am about to feed them wormwoodand give them poisoned water to drink,(R)for from the prophets of Jerusalemungodliness(d) has spread throughout the land.

15 Therefore, this is what the LORD God of the Heavenly Armies says about the prophets, "I'm about to make them eat wormwood and drink poisoned water, because godlessness has spread from the prophets of Jerusalem throughout the land."

16 The Lord who rules over all says to the people of Jerusalem: "Do not listen to what those prophets are saying to you. They are filling you with false hopes. They are reporting visions of their own imaginations, not something the Lord has given them to say.

16 Thus says the Lord of hosts,(AJ)Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you. They are (AK)leading you into futility; They speak a (AL)vision of their own (e)imagination,Not (AM)from the mouth of the Lord.

16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

16 This is what the Lord of Hosts says: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They are making you worthless. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the Lord’s mouth.

16 This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "Don't listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you; they're giving you false hopes. They declare visions from their own minds they don't come from the LORD!

17 They continually say to those who reject what the Lord has said, 'Things will go well for you!' They say to all those who follow the stubborn inclinations of their own hearts, 'Nothing bad will happen to you!'

17 “They keep saying to those who (AN)despise Me,‘The Lord has said, “(AO)You will have peace”’;And as for everyone who walks in the (AP)stubbornness of his own heart,They say, ‘(AQ)Calamity will not come upon you.’

17 They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.

17 They keep on saying to those who despise Me, ‘The Lord has said: You will have peace.’(S) They have said to everyone who follows the stubbornness of his heart, ‘No harm will come to you.’”

17 They keep on saying to those who despise me, "The LORD has said, "You will have peace."' To all who stubbornly follow their own desires they say, "Disaster won't come upon you.'

18 Yet which of them has ever stood in the Lord's inner circle so they could see and hear what he has to say? Which of them have ever paid attention or listened to what he has said?

18 “But (AR)who has stood in the council of the Lord,That he should see and hear His word?Who has given (AS)heed to (f)His word and listened?

18 For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it?

18 For who has stood in the council(T) of the Lordto see and hear His word?Who has paid attention to His word and obeyed?

18 But who has stood in the LORD's council to see and hear his message? Who has paid attention to his message and obeyed it?

19 But just watch! The wrath of the Lord will come like a storm! Like a raging storm it will rage down on the heads of those who are wicked.

19 “Behold, the (AT)storm of the Lord has gone forth in wrath,Even a whirling tempest; It will swirl down on the head of the wicked.

19 Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.

19 Look, a storm from the Lord!(U)Wrath has gone out,a whirling storm. It will whirl about the heads of the wicked.

19 Look, the storm of the LORD's wrath has gone forth, a whirling tempest, and it will swirl down around the head of the wicked.

20 The anger of the Lord will not turn back until he has fully carried out his intended purposes. In days to come you people will come to understand this clearly.

20 “The (AU)anger of the Lord will not turn backUntil He has (AV)performed and carried out the purposes of His heart;(AW)In the last days you will clearly understand it.

20 The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.

20 The Lord’s anger will not turn backuntil He has completely fulfilled the purposes of His heart. In time to come you will understand it clearly.(V)

20 The LORD's anger won't turn back until he has accomplished what he intended to do. In the future you will clearly understand it.

21 I did not send those prophets. Yet they were in a hurry to give their message. I did not tell them anything. Yet they prophesied anyway.

21 (AX)I did not send these prophets,But they ran.I did not speak to them,But they prophesied.

21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.

21 I did not send these prophets,(W)yet they ran with a message.I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.

21 I didn't send these prophets, but they ran anyway. I didn't speak to them, but they prophesied.

22 But if they had stood in my inner circle, they would have proclaimed my message to my people. They would have caused my people to turn from their wicked ways and stop doing the evil things they are doing.

22 “But if they had (AY)stood in My council,Then they would have (AZ)announced My words to My people,And would have turned them back from their evil wayAnd from the evil of their deeds.

22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.

22 If they had really stood in My council, they would have enabled My people to hear My wordsand would have turned them back from their evil waysand their evil deeds.

22 If they had stood in my council and had delivered my words to my people, then they would have turned them back from their evil way, from their evil deeds."

23 Do you people think that I am some local deity and not the transcendent God?" the Lord asks.

23 “Am I a God who is (BA)near,” declares the Lord,“And not a God far off?

23 Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?

23 “Am I a God who is only near”(X)—this is the Lord’s declaration—“and not a God who is far away?

23 "Am I a God who is near," declares the LORD, "rather than a God who is far away?

24 "Do you really think anyone can hide himself where I cannot see him?" the Lord asks. "Do you not know that I am everywhere?" the Lord asks.

24 “Can a man (BB)hide himself in hiding placesSo I do not see him?” declares the Lord.(BC)Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the Lord.

24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

24 Can a man hide himself in secret places where I cannot see him?”(Y)—the Lord’s declaration. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?”(Z)—the Lord’s declaration.

24 If a person hides himself in secret places, will I not see him?" declares the LORD. "I fill the heavens and the earth, do I not?" declares the LORD.

25 The Lord says, "I have heard what those prophets who are prophesying lies in my name are saying. They are saying, 'I have had a dream! I have had a dream!'

25 “I have (BD)heard what the prophets have said who (BE)prophesy falsely in My name, saying, ‘I had a (BF)dream, I had a dream!’

25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.

25 “I have heard what the prophets who prophesy a lie in My name have said, ‘I had a dream! I had a dream!’

25 "I've heard what the prophets who prophesy lies in my name have said: "I had a dream; I had a dream.'

26 Those prophets are just prophesying lies. They are prophesying the delusions of their own minds.

26 How long? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets who prophesy falsehood, even these prophets of the (BG)deception of their own heart,

26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart;

26 How long will this continue in the minds of the prophets prophesying lies, prophets of the deceit of their own minds?

26 How long will this go on? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy from the deceit that is in their hearts?

27 How long will they go on plotting to make my people forget who I am through the dreams they tell one another? That is just as bad as what their ancestors did when they forgot who I am by worshiping the god Baal.

27 who intend to (BH)make My people forget My name by their dreams which they relate to one another, just as their fathers (BI)forgot My name because of Baal?

27 Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.

27 Through their dreams that they tell one another, they plan to cause My people to forget My name as their fathers forgot My name through Baal worship.(AA)

27 With their dreams that they relate to one another, they plan to make my people forget my name just as their ancestors forgot my name by embracing Baal.

28 Let the prophet who has had a dream go ahead and tell his dream. Let the person who has received my message report that message faithfully. What is like straw cannot compare to what is like grain! I, the Lord, affirm it!

28 The prophet who has a dream may relate his dream, but let him who has (BJ)My word speak My word in truth. (BK)What does straw have in common with grain?” declares the Lord.

28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.

28 The prophet who has only a dream should recount the dream, but the one who has My word should speak My word truthfully, for what is straw compared to grain?”—this is the Lord’s declaration.

28 Let the prophet who has a dream relate the dream, but let whoever receives my message speak my message truthfully. What does straw have in common with wheat?" declares the LORD.

29 My message is like a fire that purges dross! It is like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces! I, the Lord, so affirm it!

29 “Is not My word like (BL)fire?” declares the Lord, “and like a (BM)hammer which shatters a rock?

29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

29 “Is not My word like fire”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“and like a hammer that pulverizes rock?

29 "My message is like fire or like a hammer that shatters rock, is it not?" declares the LORD.

30 So I, the Lord, affirm that I am opposed to those prophets who steal messages from one another that they claim are from me.

30 Therefore behold, (BN)I am against the prophets,” declares the Lord, “who steal My words from each other.

30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.

30 Therefore, take note! I am against the prophets”(AB)—the Lord’s declaration—“who steal My words from each other.

30 "Therefore, look, I'm against the prophets," declares the LORD, "who steal my words from each other.

31 I, the Lord, affirm that I am opposed to those prophets who are using their own tongues to declare, 'The Lord declares.'

31 Behold, I am against the prophets,” declares the Lord, “who use their tongues and declare, ‘The Lord declares.’

31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.

31 I am against the prophets”—the Lord’s declaration—“who use their own tongues to make a declaration.

31 Look, I'm against the prophets," declares the LORD, "who use their tongues to issue a declaration.

32 I, the Lord, affirm that I am opposed to those prophets who dream up lies and report them. They are misleading my people with their reckless lies. I did not send them. I did not commission them. They are not helping these people at all. I, the Lord, affirm it!"

32 Behold, I am against those who have prophesied (BO)false dreams,” declares the Lord, “and related them and led My people astray by their falsehoods and (BP)reckless boasting; yet (BQ)I did not send them or command them, nor do they (BR)furnish this people the slightest benefit,” declares the Lord.

32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.

32 I am against those who prophesy false dreams”(AC)—the Lord’s declaration—“telling them and leading My people astray with their falsehoods and their boasting. It was not I who sent or commanded them, and they are of no benefit at all(AD) to these people”—this is the Lord’s declaration.

32 Look, I'm against those who prophesy based on false dreams," declares the LORD, "and relate them and lead my people astray with their lies and their recklessness. I didn't send them; I didn't command them, and they provide no benefit at all to these people," declares the LORD.

The Burden Of The Lord

33 The Lord said to me, "Jeremiah, when one of these people, or a prophet, or a priest asks you, 'What burdensome message do you have from the Lord?' Tell them, 'You are the burden, and I will cast you away. I, the Lord, affirm it!

33 “Now when this people or the prophet or a priest asks you saying, ‘What is the (g)(BS)oracle of the Lord?’ then you shall say to them, ‘What (h)oracle?’ The Lord declares, ‘I will (BT)abandon you.’

33 And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? I will even forsake you, saith the LORD.

33 “Now when these people or a prophet or a priest asks you, ‘What is the burden of the Lord?’ you will respond to them: What is the burden? I will throw you away”—this is the Lord’s declaration.

33 "Jeremiah, when these people, the prophet, or a priest ask you, "What is the oracle of the LORD?' say to them, "You are the burden, and I'll cast you out,'" declares the LORD.

34 I will punish any prophet, priest, or other person who says "The Lord's message is burdensome." I will punish both that person and his whole family.'"

34 Then as for the prophet or the priest or the people who say, ‘The (BU)oracle of the Lord,’ I will bring punishment upon that man and his household.

34 And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even punish that man and his house.

34 “As for the prophet, priest, or people who say, ‘The burden of the Lord,’ I will punish that man and his household.

34 "As for the prophet, the priest, or the people who say, "I have an oracle of the LORD,' I'll judge that person and his household.

35 So I, Jeremiah, tell you, "Each of you people should say to his friend or his relative, 'How did the Lord answer? Or what did the Lord say?'

35 Thus will each of you say to his neighbor and to his brother, ‘(BV)What has the Lord answered?’ or, ‘What has the Lord spoken?’

35 Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken?

35 This is what each man is to say to his friend and to his brother, ‘What has the Lord answered?’ or ‘What has the Lord spoken?’

35 This is what you should say to one another and among yourselves, "What has the LORD answered?' or "What has the LORD said?'

36 You must no longer say that the Lord's message is burdensome. For what is 'burdensome' really pertains to what a person himself says. You are misrepresenting the words of our God, the living God, the Lord who rules over all.

36 For you will no longer remember the oracle of the Lord, because every man’s own word will become the oracle, and you have (BW)perverted the words of the (BX)living God, the Lord of hosts, our God.

36 And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man's word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.

36 But no longer refer to(e) the burden of the Lord, for each man’s word becomes his burden and you pervert the words of the living God, the Lord of Hosts, our God.

36 But you are to no longer mention the oracle of the LORD, because the oracle is only for the person to whom the LORD gives his message, and you have overturned the words of the living God, the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, our God.

37 Each of you should merely ask the prophet, 'What answer did the Lord give you? Or what did the Lord say?'

37 Thus you will say to that prophet, ‘What has the Lord answered you?’ and, ‘What has the Lord spoken?’

37 Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath the LORD answered thee? and, What hath the LORD spoken?

37 You must say to the prophet: What has the Lord answered you? and What has the Lord spoken?

37 This is what you should say to the prophet, "What has the LORD answered?' or "What has the LORD said?'

38 But just suppose you continue to say, 'The message of the Lord is burdensome.' Here is what the Lord says will happen: 'I sent word to you that you must not say, "The Lord's message is burdensome." But you used the words "The Lord's message is burdensome" anyway.

38 For if you say, ‘The oracle of the Lord!’ surely thus says the Lord, ‘Because you said this word, “The oracle of the Lord!” I have also sent to you, saying, “You shall not say, ‘The oracle of the Lord!’”’

38 But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;

38 But if you say, ‘The burden of the Lord,’ then this is what the Lord says: Because you have said, ‘The burden of the Lord,’ and I specifically told you not to say, ‘The burden of the Lord,’

38 Since you're saying, "We have an oracle of the LORD,' therefore this is what the LORD says: He will answer your message with this message, "Burden of the LORD,' and I'll send you away with these words: "Don't say, "Oracle of the LORD."'

39 So I will carry you far off and throw you away. I will send both you and the city I gave to you and to your ancestors out of my sight.

39 Therefore behold, (BY)I will surely forget you and cast you away from My presence, along with the city which I gave you and your fathers.

39 Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence:

39 I will surely forget you(f) and throw away from My presence both you and the city that I gave you and your fathers.

39 Therefore I'll surely forget you and cast you and the city I gave you and your ancestors out of my presence.

40 I will bring on you lasting shame and lasting disgrace which will never be forgotten!'"

40 I will put an everlasting (BZ)reproach on you and an everlasting humiliation which will not be forgotten.”

40 And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.

40 I will bring on you everlasting shame and humiliation(AE) that will never be forgotten.”

40 I'll bring on you everlasting reproach and everlasting humiliation that won't ever be forgotten."
