So the Moabites said to the leaders of Midian: All those people will eventually eat up everything around us the same way cattle eat up the grass in a field. At that time Balak, son of Zippor, was king of Moab.

Midian was defeated by the Israelites and was no longer a threat. The land was at peace for forty years, until Gideon died.

She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

Jethro was the priest of Midian and the father-in-law of Moses. He heard what Jehovah God had done for Moses and his people, after rescuing them from Egypt.

Moses said to the people: Your men must get ready to go to war against the Midianites. Jehovah will use them to get even with Midian.

Again the people of Israel sinned against Jehovah. Therefore he let the people of Midian rule them for seven years.

Gideon sent the Israelites home, except the three hundred. They kept all the supplies and trumpets. The Midianite camp was below them in the valley.


Many camels will cover your land, young camels from Midian and Ephah. Everyone from Sheba will come. They will bring gold and incense. They will sing the praises of Jehovah.

I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction. The tent cloths of the land of Midian trembled.

They left Midian and went to Paran. Taking some men from Paran with them, they went to Pharaoh the king of Egypt. Pharaoh gave Hadad a home, a food allowance, and land.

When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he tried to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian by a well.


The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were Keturah's descendants.

The sons born to Keturah, Abraham's concubine: Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah. The sons of Jokshan: Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Midian: Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida and Eldaah. All these were descendants of Keturah.

She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.
