When Annas and Caiaphas were the high priests: The word of God came unto John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.

saying that the son of man must suffer many things, and be reproved of the elders, and of the high priests and scribes, and be slain, and the third day rise again.

And he taught daily in the temple. The high priests and the scribes and the chief of the people, went about to destroy him;

And it fortuned, in one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple; and preached the gospel; the high priests and the scribes came unto him with the elders,

And the high priests and the scribes, the same hour went about to lay hands on him, but they feared the people. For they perceived that he had spoken this similitude against them.

and the high priests, and scribes sought how to kill him, but they feared the people.

and he went his way, and communed with the high priests and officers, how he might betray him to them.

Then Jesus said unto the high priests and rulers of the temple and the elders which were come to him, "Be ye come out, as unto a thief: with swords and staves?

And they cried with loud voice, and required that he might be crucified. And the voice of them and of the high priests prevailed.
