Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judah and his brethren;

And Judah begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;

And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the princes of Judah: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill-country with haste, into a city of Judah,

Who was the son of Simeon, who was the son of Judah, who was the son of Joseph, who was the son of Jonan, who was the son of Eliakim,

Who was the son of Aminadab, who was the son of Aram, who was the son of Esrom, who was the son of Phares, who was the son of Judah,

For it is evident that our Lord sprang from Judah; of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

And one of the elders saith to me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose its seven seals.

Of the tribe of Judah were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
