Thematic Bible: Christ set an example of

Thematic Bible

He spoke openly and they said nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is the Christ?

When he came close to the city he wept over it. He said: If you only knew today the things needed to bring peace! But they are hidden from your eyes.

The people came early in the morning to hear him in the temple.

For this you were called because Christ also suffered for you. He left you an example (a copy for imitation) (a model) that you should follow in his steps. He committed no sin and deception was not found in him. When he was reviled (insulted), he did not revile in return. When he suffered he did not threaten, but committed himself to him that judges righteously.

Now I Paul myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you.

Ride on in majesty to victory for the defense of truth, justice and righteousness! Your right hand (strength) will teach you great things!

I pray for them. I do not pray for the world. I pray only for those you gave me, for they are yours. All things that are mine are yours, and yours are mine and I am glorified in them. I am no more in the world but they are in the world. I come to you Holy Father. Keep them in your name, which you have given to me, that they may be one*, even as we are. *(Greek: heis; united in purpose and love) read more.
While I was with them I kept them in your name, which you have given to me. I guarded them, and not one of them perished, except the son of perdition; that the Scripture might be fulfilled. Now I come to you. I spoke these things in the world, that they may have my joy made full in themselves. I gave them your word. The world hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not pray that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth. As you commissioned (sent) me into the world, I commissioned (sent) them into the world. I sanctify myself for them, that they may be sanctified by truth. I pray, not for these alone but for those who will believe in me through their word. May they all be united (in agreement) as one. Just as you, Father, are with me, and I am with you. Help them be united with us! That way the world may believe that you sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me in order that they may be one even as we are one. I with them, and you with me, that they may accomplish complete unity. That way the world may know that you sent me and that you love them just as you love me. Father, I desire that these whom you gave me may be with me where I am. I want them to see the glory you have given me. For you loved me before the creation of the world.

Jesus said to Peter: Put the sword in the sheath. Shall I drink the cup the Father has given me?

Then he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed: My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will. When he came to the disciples, they were sleeping. He said to Peter: Could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray continually that you do not enter into temptation! read more.
A second time he went away and prayed, saying: Father, if this cannot pass away, except I drink it, your will be done. He returned to find them sleeping again, for their eyes were heavy. He went away to pray a third time, saying the same words.

For even Christ did not please himself. However it is written, The reproaches (insults) hurled at you have fallen on me. (Psalm 69:9)

This time the Devil took Jesus to an extremely high mountain. He showed him all the kingdoms of the world with all their greatness. I will give all this to you, the Devil told Jesus, if you kneel down and worship me. Go away, Satan! demanded Jesus. It is written, It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.' (Deuteronomy 6:13-15)

He existed in the form (shape and nature) of God but did not try to be equal with God. He did not even consider it! He emptied (humbled) himself by taking the form of a servant. He was made in the likeness of men. He obtained the appearance as a man, humbled himself, and became obedient even to death, yes, death on the stake.

So they took away the stone. Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said: Father, I thank you that you hear me.

Then he took a cup and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying: Drink it all.

Jesus gave thanks and then he distributed the loaves along with the fish to those sitting on the grass.
