After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;

The Lord said to Moses, “Behold, you are about to lie down with your fathers; and this people will arise and play the harlot with the strange gods of the land, into the midst of which they are going, and will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.

“Why then do You not pardon my transgression
And take away my iniquity?
For now I will lie down in the dust;
And You will seek me, but I will not be.”


This He said, and after that He *said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may awaken him out of sleep.”

For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers and underwent decay;

So man lies down and does not rise.
Until the heavens are no longer,
He will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep.

“When they become heated up, I will serve them their banquet
And make them drunk, that they may become jubilant
And may sleep a perpetual sleep
And not wake up,” declares the Lord.



Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.



And all the host of heaven will wear away,
And the sky will be rolled up like a scroll;
All their hosts will also wither away
As a leaf withers from the vine,
Or as one withers from the fig tree.

And, "YOU, LORD, IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH, AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS; THEY WILL PERISH, BUT YOU REMAIN; AND THEY ALL WILL BECOME OLD LIKE A GARMENT, AND LIKE A MANTLE YOU WILL ROLL THEM UP; LIKE A GARMENT THEY WILL ALSO BE CHANGED BUT YOU ARE THE SAME, AND YOUR YEARS WILL NOT COME TO AN END."


So man lies down and does not rise.
Until the heavens are no longer,
He will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep.

Lift up your eyes to the sky,
Then look to the earth beneath;
For the sky will vanish like smoke,
And the earth will wear out like a garment
And its inhabitants will die in like manner;
But My salvation will be forever,
And My righteousness will not wane.


Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.




I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

"Of old You founded the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. "Even they will perish, but You endure; And all of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing You will change them and they will be changed.


Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,


When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom.

So man lies down and does not rise.

And Solomon slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David, and his son Rehoboam reigned in his place.

And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of his father David, and Jehoram his son became king in his place.

He said, “Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him.


And entering in, He *said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep.”

So man lies down and does not rise.
Until the heavens are no longer,
He will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep.


He said, “Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him.

Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her; but He said, “Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep.”

This He said, and after that He said to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may awaken him out of sleep." The disciples then said to Him, "Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover."
