He must pay the injured man for the loss of his time and for all his medical expenses. If a slave owner takes a stick and beats his slave, whether male or female, and the slave dies on the spot, the owner is to be punished. When a pregnant woman suffers a miscarriage as the result of an injury caused by someone who is fighting, if she is not badly hurt, the one who injured her must pay whatever fine her husband demands and the judges approve. Have no pity on him: Take a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, and a foot for a foot.

Exodus 22:16-17

Never have sexual intercourse with your stepsister, whether she is your father's daughter or your mother's daughter. It makes no difference whether or not she was born in your house. Do not have sexual intercourse with your granddaughter, whether she is your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter, because she is related to you. Never have sexual intercourse with a daughter of your father and his wife. She is your own sister. Do not have sexual intercourse with your father's sister. She is your paternal aunt. Do not have sexual intercourse with your mother's sister. She is your maternal aunt. Never have sexual intercourse with the wife of your father's brother. She, too, is your aunt. Never have sexual intercourse with your daughter-in-law. She is your son's wife. Never have sexual intercourse with her. Do not have sexual intercourse with your sister-in-law. She is your brother's wife. Do not have sexual intercourse with a woman and her daughter or a woman and her granddaughter. They are related. Doing this is perverted. While your wife is living, never marry her sister as a rival wife and have sexual intercourse with her. Never have sexual intercourse with a woman while she is unclean during her monthly period. Do not have sexual intercourse with your neighbor's wife and become unclean with her. Never give your children as sacrifices to the god Molech by burning them alive. If you do, you are dishonoring the name of your God. I am Jehovah! Do not have sexual intercourse with a man as with a woman. It is disgusting. Do not have sexual intercourse with any animal and become unclean with it. A woman must never offer herself to an animal for sexual intercourse. It is unnatural.

Deuteronomy 22:13-30

If a man marries a woman and has sex with her and then turns against her, he charges her with shameful deeds and publicly defames her. He says: 'When I had sex with this woman, I did not find proof of her virginity.' The girl's father and her mother must present evidence of the girl's virginity to the elders of the city at the gate.read more.
The girl's father shall say to the elders: I gave my daughter to be this man's wife, but he turned against her. He has charged her with shameful deeds. He says: 'I did not find your daughter to be a virgin. But this is the evidence of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city. The elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him, They will fine him a hundred shekels of silver. They will give it to the girl's father, because he publicly defamed a virgin of Israel. She will remain his wife. He may not divorce her all his days. On the other hand if this charge is true, that the girl was not found a virgin, they will take the girl to the doorway of her father's house. The men of her city shall stone her to death because she has committed an act of folly in Israel by playing the harlot in her father's house. You must purge the evil from among you. If a man is caught having sexual intercourse with another mans wife, then both of them shall die! Both the man and the woman committing adultery must be killed. Thus you shall purge the evil from Israel. Suppose there is a girl who is a virgin engaged to a man, and another man has sexual relations with her. You must bring them both out to the gate of that city and you must stone them to death! The girl did not protest what was happening and the man has violated his neighbor's woman. Thus you shall purge the evil from among you. If an engaged woman is raped (forced to experience sex) only the man who commits the act will die. Do nothing to the woman. There is no sin in the woman worthy of death. This is like the case where a man attacks and murders his neighbor. When he found her in the field, the woman who is engaged protested, but there was no one to save her. Suppose a man finds a woman who is a virgin, who is not engaged, and seizes her and lies with her and they are discovered. The man who has sex with her must give to the girl's father fifty shekels of silver, and she will become his wife because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days. A man must not have sexual intercourse with his father's wife. This would violate his father.

2 Samuel 3:8

Ishbosheth's question made Abner very angry. Am I a dog that belongs to Judea? He asked. Until now I have been faithful to your father Saul's family, to his relatives and friends. I did not hand you over to David. But now you charge me with a crime because of this woman.

Genesis 20:1-16

Abraham moved from Mamre to the southern part of Canaan and lived between Kadesh and Shur. Later, while he was living in Gerar, he said that his wife Sarah was his sister. So King Abimelech of Gerar had Sarah brought to him. God appeared to the king in a dream and said: You are going to die, because you have taken this woman. She is already married.read more.
Abimelech had not come near her. He said: Lord, I am innocent! Would you destroy my people and me? Abraham said that she was his sister. She said the same thing. I did this with a clear conscience. I have done no wrong! God said to him in a dream: Yes, I know that you did this with a clear conscience. In fact, I kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her. Give the man's wife back to him now. He is a prophet. He will pray for you, and you will live. But if you do not give her back, you and all who belong to you are doomed to die. So Abimelech got up early in the morning. He called all his servants and told them everything. The men were very afraid. Then Abimelech called Abraham. He said to him: What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you? You have brought a great sin on me and on my kingdom. You have done to me things that ought not to be done. Abimelech also asked Abraham: What were you thinking when you did this? Abraham said: I thought that because there are no people who reverence God in this place, I would be killed because of my wife. Besides, she is my sister. She is my father's daughter, but not my mother's. She is also my wife. When God had me leave my father's home and travel around, I said to her: 'Do me a favor: Wherever we go, say that I am your brother.' Abimelech took sheep, cattle, and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham. He also gave his wife Sarah back to him. Abimelech said: Look, here is my land. Live anywhere you like. He said to Sarah: Do not forget that I have given your brother twenty-five pounds of silver. This is to silence any criticism against you from everyone with you. You are completely cleared.

1 Samuel 25:14-28

One of Nabal's servants told Nabal's wife Abigail: Have you heard? David sent some messengers from the wilderness with greetings for our master. He insulted them. Yet they were very good to us. They never bothered us. Nothing belonging to us was stolen at the time we were with them in the fields. They protected our sheep and us day and night the whole time we were with them.read more.
Consider what you should do because our master and his whole household are doomed. He is such a worthless man that it is useless to talk to him. So Abigail quickly took two hundred loaves of bread, two full wineskins, five butchered sheep, a bushel of roasted grain, one hundred bunches of raisins, and two hundred fig cakes and loaded them on donkeys. Lead the way, she told her young men, and I will follow you. But she did not tell her husband Nabal about it. She rode her donkey down a hidden mountain path. David and his men came to her. David thought: I guarded this man's possessions in the desert for nothing! Not one of his possessions was missing. Yet, he paid me back with evil when I was good to him. May God punish me if I do not kill every one of those men before morning! Abigail saw David and quickly got down from her donkey. She immediately bowed down in front of David with her face touching the ground. She fell at his feet and said: Let me be held responsible for this wrong. Please let me speak with you. Please listen to me. You should not take this worthless person Nabal seriously. He is like his name. His name is Nabal (Godless Fool). He is foolish. But I did not see the young men you sent. Jehovah kept you from spilling innocent blood and from getting a victory by your own efforts. As Jehovah lives and you live, may your enemies and those who are trying to harm you end up like Nabal. Please accept this gift from your maidservant. And give it to the young men who accompany my lord. Also please forgive the transgression of your maidservant. Jehovah will certainly give you a lasting dynasty, because my lord is fighting the battles of Jehovah. Evil will not be found in you all your days.

Is this the carpenter, the son of Mary, brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? Are not his sisters here with us? He offended them.read more.
Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own people and in his own house.

Matthew 15:1-12

Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came to Jesus. They questioned him: Why do your disciples go against the teaching of the fathers? They eat food with unwashed hands. His answer to them was in the form of a question: Why do you go against the word of God in favor of your tradition?read more.
God said, 'Honor your father and mother.' 'He who says evil of father or mother will be put to death.' You teach that a man should tell his father or mother that what he has that could help them, is given to God. You say there is no need for him to give honor to his father. You have invalidated the word of God because of your tradition! You hypocrites (liars)! Isaiah's prophecy was right about you. These people honor me with their lips, but their heart (innermost thoughts) is far from me. But their worship is to no purpose, while they give as their teaching the rules (commands) of men.' He got the people together and said to them: Listen, and let my words be clear to you. That which comes out of the mouth makes a man unclean, not that which goes into the mouth. The disciples told him the Pharisees were upset by what he said.

When he said: From other people, Jesus replied: Are the sons free of tax?read more.

Jesus responded to them: Truly I tell you if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood you will not have life in yourselves. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life! I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.read more.
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides with me, and I with him. The living Father sent me and I live because of the Father. He who takes me for his food will live because of me. This is the bread that came down out of heaven. It is not like the bread (manna) the fathers ate and then died. He who eats this bread will live forever. He said these things in the synagogue when he taught in Capernaum. When they heard this many of his disciples said: This is a hard saying; who can listen to it? He knew his disciples complained about this. Jesus said: Does this cause you to stumble? What if you see the Son of man ascending where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I spoke to you are spirit and life. There are some of you who do not believe. Jesus knew from the beginning whom they were who did not believe and who would betray him. He stated: For this reason listen to what I say. No man can come to me, except it be given to him from the Father. After this many of his disciples returned to their old ways. They did not walk with him anymore.

The life of every person belongs to me. The life of the father as well as the life of the son is mine. The person who sins will die. If a man is righteous and practices justice and righteousness, and does not eat at the mountain shrines or lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, or defile his neighbor's wife or approach a woman during her menstrual period; if a man does not oppress anyone, but restores to the debtor his pledge, does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing. If he does not lend money on interest or take increase, if he keeps his hand from iniquity and executes true justice between man and man, if he lives by my rules and obeys my laws faithfully this person is righteous. He will certainly live,' declares the Lord Jehovah. Suppose this person has a son who robs and murders. The son does all these other things that his father never did. He eats at the illegal mountain worship sites. He dishonors his neighbor's wife. He oppresses the poor and needy. He robs. He does not return the security for a loan. He looks to idols for help. He does disgusting things. He lends money for interest and makes excessive profits. Will this person live? He will not live. He has done all these disgusting things. So he must die, and he will be responsible for his own death. Now suppose this son has a son. The son sees all the sins that his father does. He is afraid, so he does not do such things. He does not eat at the illegal mountain worship sites or look for help from the idols of the nation of Israel. He does not dishonor his neighbor's wife. He does not oppress anyone. He does not keep the security for a loan. He does not rob anyone. He gives food to people who are hungry, and he gives clothes to those who are naked. He keeps his hand from the poor and does not take interest or increase, but executes my ordinances, and walks in my statutes. He will not die for his father's iniquity. He will surely live. As for his father, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother and did what was not good among his people, he will die for his iniquity. Yet you say: Why should the son not bear the punishment for the father's iniquity? When the son has practiced justice and righteousness and has observed all my statutes and done them, he shall surely live. The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father's iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son's iniquity. The righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself. And the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself. If the wicked man turns from all his sins and observes all my statutes and practices justice and righteousness, he shall live; he shall not die. All his transgressions he has committed will not be remembered against him. He will live because of his righteousness he has practiced.' Do I have any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord Jehovah, that he should turn from his ways and live? But suppose a righteous person turns away from doing right and he does evil things. He does all the disgusting things that the wicked person did. Will he live? All the right things that he has done will not be remembered because of his unfaithfulness and because of his sin. He will die because of them. But you say: Jehovah's way is unfair. Listen, nation of Israel, is my way fair? Is it your ways that are unfair? When a righteous person turns away from doing right and does evil things, he will die. He will die because of the evil things he has done. When a wicked person turns away from the wicked things that he has done and does what is fair and right, he will live. He realized what he was doing and turned away from all the rebellious things that he had done. He will certainly live. He will not die. But the nation of Israel says: Jehovah's way is unfair. Is my way not fair, nation of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unfair? That is why I will judge each of you by what you have done, people of Israel, declares the Lord Jehovah. Change the way you think and act. (Repent!) Turn away from all the rebellious things that you have done so that you will not fall into sin. Give up all the evil you have been doing. Get yourselves new minds and hearts. Why do you Israelites want to die? I do not want anyone to die,' says the Lord Jehovah. 'Turn away from (repent of) your sins and live.'

I, Jehovah, will give that Israelite an answer, the answer that his many idolaters deserve.

Ezekiel 3:20
