But he willing to justify himself said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor? And Jesus replying said, There was a certain man going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among thieves, who after they had stripped and beaten him, went away, leaving him half dead. And by chance a certain priest came down that way, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. read more.
Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place, went and looked at him, and then crossed the way and passed by. But a certain Samaritan, as he was travelling, came up to him, and when He saw him, he was moved with compassion, and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine; and setting him upon his own beast, brought him to an inn and took care of him. And on the morrow, when he went away he took out two denaries, and gave them to the inn-keeper, and said to him, Take care of him, and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again I will repay thee. Which now of these three dost thou think was neighbor to him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that took pity on him. Therefore said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou in like manner.

For unto this are ye called; because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye might follow his steps. Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously.

Now before the feast of the passover, (Jesus knowing that his hour was come, when He should pass out of this world unto the Father, as He had loved his own, who were yet in the world, He loved them unto the end:) supper being prepared, (the devil having put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him) Jesus, who knew that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that He came from God, and was going to God, read more.

Then Judas, who had betrayed Him, when he saw that He was condemned, being struck with remorse, brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, saying, I have sinned, for I have betrayed innocent blood: but they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. And he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. read more.
But the chief priests took up the pieces of silver, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the treasury of the temple, because it is the price of blood: so they consulted together, and bought with them the potter's field for a burying-ground for strangers: and therefore that field is called the field of blood to this day. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was estimated, on whom the children of Israel set the price, and gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

When Jesus had spoken these words, He lifted up his eyes to heaven and said,--- "Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify Thee: as Thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that as to all which Thou hast given Him, He might give them eternal life; and this is life eternal, to know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. read more.
I have glorified Thee on earth, I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do: and now, O Father, glorify Thou me with thine own self, with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was made. I have manifested thy name to the men, whom Thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and Thou gavest them to me, and they have kept thy word. They now know that all things whatsoever Thou hast given me, are indeed from Thee; for the instructions, which Thou gavest me, I have given to them: and they have received them, and have known of a truth that I came from Thee, and have believed that thou hast sent me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for those whom Thou hast given me, for they are thine. And all my concerns are thine, and thine are mine: and I am therefore glorified in them. And as I am to be no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I am coming to Thee, Holy Father, keep by thy name those whom Thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name; I have preserved those whom Thou gavest me, and none of them is lost; except the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John: this man came for witness, that he might testify concerning the light, that through him all might believe. He was not that light, but was sent to bear witness of the light. The true light was that which enlightneth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and yet the world knew Him not: yea, He came to his own peculiar right, and even his own people received Him not.
