And the guards received Him with blows and by slapping Him.

And they began to accuse Him, asserting, We found this Man perverting (misleading, corrupting, and turning away) our nation and forbidding to pay tribute to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One), a King! So Pilate asked Him, Are You the King of the Jews? And He answered him, [ It is just as] you say. [I Am.]
And, weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on His head and put a reed (staff) in His right hand. And kneeling before Him, they made sport of Him, saying, Hail (greetings, good health to You, long life to You), King of the Jews! And they spat on Him, and took the reed (staff) and struck Him on the head.
