Confession » Of Christ
moreover I declare unto you, whoever shall acknowledge me before men, him shall the son of man also own before the angels of God.
Verse Concepts
I indeed baptize you with water to lead you to repentance; but he that cometh after me, is my superiour, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry: he shall baptize you with the effusion of the holy Ghost, in the appearance of fire:

wherefore I give you to understand, that no man who has the spirit of God, can pronounce Jesus anathema: and that no man can acknowledge Jesus to be the Lord, but by the holy spirit.
Verse Concepts
whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
Verse Concepts
by this you may distinguish the spirit of God: "every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is from God. and every spirit that does not own that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is not from God." this is that anti-christian spirit which you have heard was to come, and even now it appears in the world.
nevertheless there were many even among the chief rulers, who believed on him; but they did not own it publickly for fear the Pharisees should excommunicate them. for they preferr'd their own reputation to the glory of God.
Not every one that says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but only they who do the will of my Father who is in heaven. many will cry out to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? have we not cast out devils in thy name? and in thy name have we not wrought many miracles? and then will I make this declaration to them: I never knew you: depart from me ye that have practised iniquity.
Whosoever therefore shall own me before men, him will I own likewise before my father who is in heaven. but whosoever shall renounce me before men, him will I also renounce before my father who is in heaven.
it was of him that John bare witness, when he made this declaration, "this was he of whom I said, he that cometh after me, was before me; for he did indeed exist before me." and of his Plenitude have we all received, even abundant grace. the law indeed was delivered by Moses, but grace and truth was the dispensation of Jesus Christ. read more.

his parents said this, because they were afraid of the Jews: for the Jews had agreed in this, that if any man did own him for the Messias, he should be excommunicated. it was this made his parents say, "he is of age, ask him." They therefore again call'd the man that had been blind, and said to him, in the name of God tell the truth: for we know that this man is an impostor. read more.
whether he be so or not, said he, I don't know: one thing I very well know, that once I was blind, and now I see. they still urg'd the same question, what did he do to thee? how did he make you see? I have already told you that, said he, and did you not hear it? why would ye hear it over again? have you likewise a mind to be his disciples? then they reviled him, and said, thou art his disciple; but we are Moses disciples. we know that God commission'd Moses: as for this fellow, we don't know who sent him. the man replied, that's very strange that he should make me see, and you should not know who sent him. now 'tis certain, that God does not countenance impostors: but regards him only that is religious, and executes his commands. It was never heard since the world began, that any man gave sight to one that was born blind. if this man had not his mission from God, he could do nothing. they answered, you were a vicious fellow from your very birth, and do you pretend to preach to us? and then they excommunicated him. Jesus having heard that they had excommunicated him; and meeting with the man, he said to him, do you believe on the son of God? he answered and said, who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him? Jesus said to him, not only thou hast seen him, but it is he himself that is talking with thee. then said he to Jesus, Lord, I believe: and prostrated himself before him.

then Philip enter'd upon the subject, and show'd how the whole passage was applicable to Jesus. as they pursued their journey, they came to a place of water: and the eunuch said, see, here is water; what should hinder my being baptized? for if you openly confess, that Jesus is the Lord, and sincerely believe, that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. for the scripture saith, "whosoever believeth on him, shall not be ashamed."
