Nevertheless, I obtained help of God, and continue unto this day witnessing both to small and to great; saying none other things, than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from death, and should show light unto the people, and to the gentiles."




I call corruption my father, and the worms call I my mother and my sister.


because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt suffer thine holy to see corruption.

Now sleep they both alike in the earth, and the worms cover them.

All flesh shall come together unto naught, and all men shall turn again unto earth.

Yea, though he live long, and see not the grave.

As concerning that he so raised him up from death, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, 'The holy promises made to David I will give them faithfully to you.' Wherefore he saith also in another place, 'Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy to see corruption.' But he whom God raised again, saw no corruption.


This say I brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Neither doth corruption inherit uncorruption.


For all the gods of the heathen are idols: But the LORD made heaven! Praise and honour are in his presence: strength and gladness are in his place.

If I climb up into heaven, thou art there; if I go down to hell, thou art there also.

yea, and all they which dwell beneath in the hell are not hid from him, and the very destruction itself cannot be kept out of his sight.



The wicked must be turned unto hell, and all the people that forget God.

The snares of death compassed me round about, the pains of hell got hold upon me.

The hell with her pain is known to the LORD; how much more then the hearts of men?

Like as hell and destruction are never full, even so the eyes of men can never be satisfied.

The cords of hell have compassed me about, and the snares of death have overtaken me.

He is higher than heaven; what wilt thou do? Deeper than hell; how wilt thou then know him?

Her feet go down unto death, and her steps pierce through unto hell.


But they consider not that death is there, and that her guests go down to hell.
