O send out your light and your truth. Let them lead me! Let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling places.

Beautiful words fill my mind and stir my heart, as I compose this song for the king. Like the pen of a skilful writer (copyist) my tongue is ready with a poem.

([[Psalm of David] in the wilderness of Judah:]) O God, you are my God. At dawn I search for you. I thirst for you. My body longs for you in a dry, parched land where there is no water.


Behold, the day is coming, said the Lord Jehovah, that I will send a famine in the land. Not a famine of bread, or a thirst for water, but for hearing the words of Jehovah. They will wander from sea to sea and from the north even to the east. They will run to and fro to seek the word of Jehovah, and will not find it. In that day the fair virgins and the young men faint for thirst.

I remember these things and I pour out my heart within me. I used to go along with the crowd and lead them in procession to the house of God, with the voice of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.

But whoever drinks from the water that I give him will never thirst. The water that I will give him will be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The woman said to him: Sir, give me this water! That way I will not thirst and not come here to draw.
