And he said, "I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia: nevertheless yet brought up in this city, at the feet of Gamaliel, and informed diligently in the law of the fathers, and was fervent minded to Godward, as ye all are this same day, and I persecuted this way unto the death: binding, and delivering into prison both men and women,

And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, and desired of him letters to Damascus, to the synagogues: that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. But as he journeyed, it fortuned that he drew nigh to Damascus, and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven. read more.
And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?" And he said, "What art thou, Lord?" And the Lord said, "I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it shall be hard for thee to kick against the prick."

I also verily thought in myself, that I ought to do many contrary things, clean against the name of Jesus of Nazareth:

For ye have heard of my conversation in times past in the Jews' ways, how that beyond measure I persecuted the congregation of God, and spoiled it: and prevailed in the Jews' law, above many of my companions, which were of mine own nation, and was a much more fervent maintainer of the traditions of the elders.

and as concerning ferventness I persecuted the congregation, and as touching the righteousness which is in the law, I was unrebukable.

Then were brought to him young children, that he should put his hands on them and pray. And his disciples rebuked them.

And they brought children to him that he should touch them. And his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

They brought unto him also babes, that he should touch them. When the disciples saw that, they rebuked them.

Do therefore this that we say to thee. We have four men, which have a vow on them. Them take and purify thyself with them, and do cost on them, that they may shave their heads and all shall know that those things which they have heard concerning thee are nothing: but that thou thyself also walkest and keepest the law. For as touching the gentiles which believe: we have written, and concluded, that they observe no such things - but that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, from blood, from strangled, and from fornication."

And when they were come to Jerusalem they were received of the congregation and of the apostles and elders. And they declared what things God had done by them. Then arose there up certain of the sect of the Pharisees, which did believe: saying that it was needful to circumcise them and to command them to keep the law of Moses. And the apostles and elders came together to reason of this matter. And when there was much disputing, Peter rose up and said unto them, "Ye men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago, God chose among us that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel and believe. And God which knoweth the heart, bare them witness, and gave unto them the holy ghost, even as he did unto us; And he put no difference between them and us, but with faith purified their hearts. Now therefore, why tempt ye God, that ye would put a yoke on the disciples necks which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Forasmuch as we have heard that certain which departed from us, have troubled you with words, and cumbered your minds saying ye must be circumcised and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment.

Also Titus which was with me, though he were a Greek, yet was not compelled to be circumcised; and that because of incomers, being false brethren, which came in among others to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage. To whom we gave no room - no, not for the space of a hour - as concerning to be brought into subjection: and that because that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

What preferment, then, hath the Jew? Other, what advantageth circumcision? Surely, very much. First: unto them was committed the word of God. What, then, though some of them did not believe? Shall their unbelief make the promise of God without effect? read more.

"Their throat is an open sepulchre, with their tongues they have deceived." "The poison of Asps is under their lips." "Whose mouths are full of cursing and bitterness." "Their feet are swift to shed blood. Destruction and wretchedness are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known." "There is no fear of God before their eyes." Yea and we know that whatsoever the law saith, he saith it to them which are under the law: That all mouths may be stopped, and all the world be subdued to God, because that by the deeds of the law, shall no flesh be justified in the sight of God. For by the law cometh the knowledge of sin. Now, verily, is the righteousness that cometh of God declared without the fulfilling of the law: having witness yet of the law, and of the prophets. The righteousness, no doubt, which is good before God cometh by the faith of Jesus Christ: unto all, and upon all them that believe. There is no difference: For all have sinned, and lack the praise that is of valour before God:

What shall we say, then, that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, did find? If Abraham were justified by deeds, then hath he wherein to rejoice: but not with God. For what saith the scripture? "Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness." read more.
To him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of favour: but of duty. To him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, is his faith counted for righteousness. Even as David describeth the blessedfulness of the man, unto whom God ascribeth righteousness without deeds, "Blessed are they, whose unrighteousnesses are forgiven and whose sins are covered. Blessed is that man to whom the Lord imputeth not sin." Came this blessedness then upon the circumcised or upon the uncircumcised? We say verily how that faith was reckoned to Abraham, for righteousness. How was it reckoned? In the time of circumcision? Or in the time before he was circumcised? Not in time of circumcision: but when he was yet uncircumcised. And he received the sign of circumcision, as a seal of the righteousness which is by faith: which faith he had, yet being uncircumcised, that he should be the father of all them that believe: though they be not circumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also; And that he might be the father of the circumcised: not because they are circumcised only: but because they walk also in the steps of that faith, that was in our father Abraham before the time of circumcision. For the promise that he should be heir of the world was not given to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law: but through the righteousness which cometh of faith. For if they which are of the law be heirs, then is faith but vain, and the promise of none effect. Because the law causeth wrath. For where no law is, there is no transgression. Therefore by faith is the inheritance given, that it might come of favour: and that the promise might be sure to all the seed. Not to them only which are of the law: but also to them which are of the faith of Abraham, which is the father of us all.

It is not written for him only, that it was reckoned to him for righteousness: but also for us, to whom it shall be counted for righteousness so we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from death. Which was delivered for our sins, and rose again for to justify us.

And whosoever receiveth me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me." John answered him, saying, "Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, which followeth not us and we forbade him, because he followeth us not." But Jesus said, "Forbid him not. For there is no man that shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. Whosoever is not against you, is on your part.

And John answered and said, "Master we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us." And Jesus said unto him, "Forbid ye him not. For he that is not against us, is with us."

When the Pharisee which bade him to his house, saw that, he spake within himself, saying, "If this man were a prophet, he would surely have known who and what manner woman this is which toucheth him, for she is a sinner."

And the Pharisees, and scribes murmured, saying, "He received to his company sinners, and eateth with them."

And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, "Zach, come down at once: for today I must abide at thy house." And hastily he came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw that, they all grudged saying, "He is gone in to tarry with a man that is a sinner."

"Men of Israel, help. This is the man that teacheth all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place. Moreover also he hath brought Greeks into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place." For they saw one Trophimus, an Ephesian, with him in the city: Him they supposed Paul had brought into the temple.

They gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices and said, "Away with such a fellow from the earth: it is pity that he should live."

Then rated they him, and said, "Thou art his disciple. We be Moses' disciples. We are sure that God spake with Moses. This fellow we know not from whence he is."

They answered, and said unto him, "Thou art altogether born in sin: and dost thou teach us?" And they cast him out.

And there ran a young man and told Moses and said, "Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the host." And Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of Moses which he had chosen out, answered and said, "Master Moses, forbid them." And Moses said unto him, "Enviest thou for my sake? Would God that all the LORD's people could prophesy, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them."

For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, he hath the devil. The son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a glutton, and drinker of wine, and a friend unto publicans, and sinners. And neverthelater, wisdom is justified of her children."

When the Pharisee saw that, he marveled that he had not first washed before dinner. And the Lord said to him, "Now do ye, O Pharisees, make clean the outside of the cup, and of the platter: but your inward parts are full of ravening and wickedness.

which as they killed the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, even so have they persecuted us, and God they please not, and are contrary to all men: and forbid us to preach unto the gentiles, that they might be saved, to fulfill their sins always: For the wrath of God is come on them, even to the utmost.

And it followed, when the time was come that he should be received up, then he set his face to go to Jerusalem: and sent messengers before him. When his disciples, James, and John, saw that, they said, "Lord, wilt thou that we command that fire come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elijah did?" Jesus turned about, and rebuked them saying, "Ye know not what manner spirit ye are of. The son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them." And they went to another town.

Then the woman of Samaria said unto him, "How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a Samaritan?" For the Jews meddle not with the Samaritans.

And even at that point, came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman. Yet no man said unto him, "What meanest thou," or "Why talkest thou with her?"

For I bear them record, that they have a fervent mind to Godward, but not according to knowledge. For they are ignorant of the righteousness which is allowed before God, and go about to establish their own righteousness: and therefore, are not obedient unto the righteousness which is of value before God.

Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, not only because he had broken the Sabbath: but said also that God was his father and made himself equal with God.

And as many as were in the synagogue when they heard that, were filled with wrath
