Laying aside therefore all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envyings and all evil speakings,

For there are many and disorderly vain speakers and deceivers of people's minds, specially those of the circumcision, who must have their mouths stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which ought not to be taught for the sake of base gain.

to speak evil of no one, not to be contentious, to be mild, shewing all meekness towards all men.

If any one think himself to be religious, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his heart, this man's religion is vain.

Thus also the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. See how little a fire, how large a wood it kindles! and the tongue is fire, the world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set in our members, the defiler of the whole body, and which sets fire to the course of nature, and is set on fire of hell. For every species both of beasts and of birds, both of creeping things and of sea animals, is tamed and has been tamed by the human species;read more.
but the tongue can no one among men tame; it is an unsettled evil, full of death-bringing poison. Therewith bless we the Lord and Father, and therewith curse we men made after the likeness of God. Out of the same mouth goes forth blessing and cursing. It is not right, my brethren, that these things should be thus.

Speak not against one another, brethren. He that speaks against his brother, or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if thou judgest the law, thou art not doer of the law, but judge.

Do ye not know that unrighteous persons shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Let no corrupt word go out of your mouth, but if there be any good one for needful edification, that it may give grace to those that hear it. These six things doth Jehovah hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood; a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations; feet that are swift in running to mischief;read more.

The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil; pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth do I hate.

The mouth of a righteous man is a fountain of life; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted; but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

The thoughts of the righteous are right; the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his soul; destruction shall be to him that openeth wide his lips.

A true witness delivereth souls; but deceit uttereth lies.

A soft answer turneth away fury; but a grievous word stirreth up anger.

A man of Belial diggeth up evil, and on his lips there is as a scorching fire.

The evil-doer giveth heed to iniquitous lips; the liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.

The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

Better is a poor man that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

for their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

The north wind bringeth forth rain, and the angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
