"Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the flood came, and the winds beat against that house, but it did not collapse because it had been founded on rock.

"Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice -- I will show you what he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep, and laid the foundation on bedrock. The shrewd person conceals knowledge, but foolish people publicize folly.

A naive person believes everything, but the shrewd person discerns his steps.

A fool rejects his father's discipline, but whoever heeds reproof shows good sense.

The discerning person acquires knowledge, and the wise person seeks knowledge.

"Who then is the faithful and wise slave, whom the master has put in charge of his household, to give the other slaves their food at the proper time? Blessed is that slave whom the master finds at work when he comes. I tell you the truth, the master will put him in charge of all his possessions.

They devise unjust schemes; they disguise a well-conceived plot. Man's inner thoughts cannot be discovered.

Your sin inspires your mouth; you choose the language of the crafty.

They carefully plot against your people, and make plans to harm the ones you cherish.

Suddenly a woman came out to meet him! She was dressed like a prostitute and with secret intent.

A good person obtains favor from the Lord, but the Lord condemns a person with wicked schemes.

Those who think they are wise are as good as dead, those who think they possess understanding.

Therefore I will again do an amazing thing for these people -- an absolutely extraordinary deed. Wise men will have nothing to say, the sages will have no explanations."

For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. As it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness." And again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile."

A person who has a quick temper does foolish things, and a person with crafty schemes is hated.

The north wind brings forth rain, and a gossiping tongue brings forth an angry look.

But I am afraid that just as the serpent deceived Eve by his treachery, your minds may be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

Then they watched him carefully and sent spies who pretended to be sincere. They wanted to take advantage of what he might say so that they could deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of the governor. Thus they asked him, "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, and show no partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right for us to pay the tribute tax to Caesar or not?"

Would someone like me flee to the temple in order to save his life? I will not go!" I recognized the fact that God had not sent him, for he had spoken the prophecy against me as a hired agent of Tobiah and Sanballat. He had been hired to scare me so that I would do this and thereby sin. They would thus bring reproach on me and I would be discredited.

But be that as it may, I have not burdened you. Yet because I was a crafty person, I took you in by deceit!
