And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they who would pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from there. Then he said, I pray you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house: For I have five brothers; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham said unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, not violent, not greedy of money; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, not violent, not given to dishonest gain;

Have you found honey? eat only as much as is sufficient for you, lest you be filled with it, and vomit it.

It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search out their own glory is not glory.

Be not among winebibbers; among gluttonous eaters of meat: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

He that loves pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loves wine and oil shall not be rich.

Whosoever keeps the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of gluttonous men shames his father.

One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.

Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflames them! Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

And be not drunk with wine, in which is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.read more.
Foods for the belly, and the belly for foods: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.

For the time past of our life will suffice us to have done the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in licentiousness, lusts, excess of wine, reveling, carousing, and abominable idolatries:

And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. Spots they are and blemishes, reveling themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

He that has not lent money for interest, neither has taken any increase, that has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,

In you have they taken bribes to shed blood; you have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained from your neighbors by extortion, and have forgotten me, says the Lord GOD.
