Beloved, do not imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is from God. He who does evil has not seen God.
For this you were called because Christ also suffered for you. He left you an example (a copy for imitation) (a model) that you should follow in his steps.
Brothers, be imitators of me. Pay attention to those who live by the example we have given you.

Then Jesus told his disciples: If any man wants to follow me (be mine), let him deny (disown) himself, and take up his stake and follow me (Greek: akoloutheo moi, let him be following me) (accompany me) (be in the same way with me).
He then spoke to both his disciples and the crowd. He said: If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his stake and follow me.
He told them all: If any man would come after me let him deny himself. Let him take up his stake (of self-denial) daily, and follow me.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me. I am meek (mild) and humble in heart. You will have a restful life,
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another.
Put on (live like) (clothe yourself with) the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not make provision for the desires of the flesh.
The things that you have learned, received, heard and saw in me; do these things and the God of peace will be with you.
It is not because we do not have the right, but to make ourselves an example for you to imitate us.
You know what you must do to imitate us. We lived a disciplined life among you.
You imitated the Lord and us, even though you suffered much affliction. Yet you received the word with the joy that comes from the Holy Spirit.
We desire that you are not lazy, but follow those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
You brothers became imitators of the congregations of God that are in Judea in Christ Jesus. You also suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews.
Do not follow the majority to do wrong. Do not give testimony that perverts justice.
Be careful that you are not ensnared to follow them, for they will be destroyed. Do not inquire after their gods, saying: How do these nations serve their gods that I also may do likewise?
