19 Bible Verses about Interest

When you lend money to any of my people who are poor, do not act like a moneylender and require him to pay interest.

If an Israelite becomes poor and cannot support himself, you should help him. He must live with you as a stranger without a permanent home. Do not collect interest or make any profit from him. Respect your God by respecting other Israelites' lives. Do not collect any interest on your money or on the food you give them.

Do not charge interest to your brothers, interest on money, food, anything that may be loaned at interest.

The one who does not collect interest on a loan or take a bribe against an innocent person. Whoever does these things will never fall or be upset.

If he does not lend money on interest or take increase, if he keeps his hand from iniquity and executes true justice between man and man,

Give to every one who asks of you and do not demand back your goods from he who takes from you.

He who becomes wealthy through unfair loans and interest collects them for the one who pitys the poor.

Sadness is mine! Why did my mother bring me into the world? I have to quarrel and argue with everyone in the whole earth. I have not lent any money or borrowed any; yet everyone curses me.

He lends money for interest and makes excessive profits. Will this person live? He will not live. He has done all these disgusting things. So he must die, and he will be responsible for his own death.

Some of your people murder for pay. Some charge interest on the loans they make to other Israelites and get rich by taking advantage of them. They have forgotten me. The Lord Jehovah has spoken.

Those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts. These draw men into ruin and destruction.

Be generous to these poor people. Freely lend them as much as they need. Never be hardhearted and stingy with them.

All goes well for the person who is generous and lends willingly. He earns an honest living.

Love your enemies and do good to them. Lend expecting nothing in return and your reward will be great. You will be sons of the Most High for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.

On hearing their outcry and what they said I was very angry. After giving it much thought, I made a protest to the chiefs and the rulers, and said to them: Everyone of you is collecting interest from his brothers. I organized a big meeting of protest. Release all debts at the end of every seven years. This is how you should release. Every man who has a loan to his neighbor shall release it. He shall not require it from his neighbor, or from his brother, because it is called Jehovah's release. There should not be any poor people among you. Jehovah your God will certainly bless you in the land he is giving you as your own possession. He will bless you only if you listen carefully to Jehovah your God and faithfully obey all these commandments I give you today. Jehovah your God will bless you, as he promised. You will make loans to many nations. But you will not have to borrow from any of them. You will rule many nations. But no nation will ever rule over you. This is what you must do whenever there are poor Israelites in one of your cities in the land that Jehovah your God is giving you. Be generous to these poor people. Freely lend them as much as they need. Never be hardhearted and stingy with them. When the seventh year, the year when payments on debts are canceled, is near, you might be stingy toward poor Israelites and give them nothing. Be careful not to think these worthless thoughts. The poor will complain to Jehovah about you, and you will be condemned for your sin. Give the poor what they need, because then Jehovah will make you successful in everything you do. There will always be some Israelites who are poor and needy. That is why I am commanding you to be generous with them.

You should have put my money in the bank. I should have received my money back plus interest.

Why did you not put my money in the bank? That way I could collect interest when I returned.
