For rebellion is as the sin of divination, And selfwill is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, He hath also rejected thee from being king.

Lofty eyes, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

But now ye glory in your vauntings: all such glorying is evil.

thefts, covetousness, wickednesses, deceit, licentiousness, a wicked eye, injurious language, haughtiness, folly; all these wicked things go forth from within and defile the man.

But this know, that in the last days difficult times shall be there; for men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, evil speakers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, profane,

because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thy heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the heart of the seas, (and thou art a man, and not God,) and thou settest thy heart as the heart of God:

not a novice, that he may not, being inflated, fall into the fault of the devil.

Every proud heart is an abomination to Jehovah: hand for hand, he shall not be held innocent.

Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear Jehovah, and depart from evil:

These six things doth Jehovah hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;

When pride cometh, then cometh shame; but with the lowly is wisdom.

Put not thyself forward in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of the great; for better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither, than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes see.

Hast thou seen a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

Boast not thyself of to-morrow, for thou knowest not what a day will bring forth.

A man's pride bringeth him low; but the humble in spirit shall obtain honour.

Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, who wander from thy commandments.

and I will break the arrogance of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as bronze,

Do not multiply your words of pride, let not vain-glory come out of your mouth; For Jehovah is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

They speak falsehood every one with his neighbour: with flattering lip, with a double heart, do they speak. Jehovah will cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaketh proud things,

Thus saith Jehovah: Let not the wise glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty glory in his might; let not the rich glory in his riches: but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am Jehovah, who exercise loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth; for in these things I delight, saith Jehovah.

Insolent fools shall not stand before thine eyes; thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

Blessed is the man that hath made Jehovah his confidence, and turneth not to the proud, and to such as turn aside to lies.

For Jehovah is high; but he looketh upon the lowly, and the proud he knoweth afar off.

Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and intelligent in their own esteem!

Hear ye, and give ear, be not lifted up; for Jehovah hath spoken. Give glory to Jehovah your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the mountains of twilight; and ye shall look for light, but he will turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. And if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because Jehovah's flock is gone into captivity.

And whoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and whoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.

for every one that exalts himself shall be abased, and he that abases himself shall be exalted.

Have the same respect one for another, not minding high things, but going along with the lowly: be not wise in your own eyes:

So that let him that thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

Likewise ye younger, be subject to the elder, and all of you bind on humility towards one another; for God sets himself against the proud, but to the humble gives grace.

But he gives more grace. Wherefore he says, God sets himself against the proud, but gives grace to the lowly.

He indeed scorneth the scorners; but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

Where then is boasting? It has been excluded. By what law? of works? Nay, but by law of faith;

And he spoke also to some, who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and made nothing of all the rest of men, this parable: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer. I fast twice in the week, I tithe everything I gain. Now if some of the branches have been broken out, and thou, being a wild olive tree, hast been grafted in amongst them, and hast become a fellow-partaker of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree, boast not against the branches; but if thou boast, it is not thou bearest the root, but the root thee. Right: they have been broken out through unbelief, and thou standest through faith. Be not high-minded, but fear:

For consider your calling, brethren, that there are not many wise according to flesh, not many powerful, not many high-born. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world, that he may put to shame the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world, that he may put to shame the strong things; and the ignoble things of the world, and the despised, has God chosen, and things that are not, that he may annul the things that are;read more.
so that no flesh should boast before God. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who has been made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness, and holiness, and redemption; that according as it is written, He that boasts, let him boast in the Lord.

For ye are saved by grace, through faith; and this not of yourselves; it is God's gift: not on the principle of works, that no one might boast.

The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil; pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth do I hate.

Whoso secretly slandereth his neighbour, him will I destroy; him that hath a high look and a proud heart will I not suffer.

{A Song of degrees. Of David.} Jehovah, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself in great matters, and in things too wonderful for me.
