For why? I heard so many derisions and blasphemies, yea even of my own companions, and such as were conversant with me: which went about, to make me afraid, saying, "Upon him; let us go upon him, to fear him, and make him hold his tongue: that we may overcome him, and be avenged of him."

backbiters, haters of God, doers of wrong, proud, boasters, bringers-up of evil things, disobedient to fathers and mothers,

A babbler of his tongue is no better than a serpent that stingeth without hissing.

Whoso beareth false witness against his neighbour, he is a very spear, a sword, and a sharp arrow.

A slanderous person pricketh like a sword; but a wise man's tongue is wholesome.

Whoso covereth another man's offense, seeketh love; but he that discloseth the fault, setteth friends at variance.

A froward body causeth strife; and he that is a babble of his tongue, maketh division among princes.

The words of a slanderer are very wounds, and go through unto the inmost parts of the body.

A slanderer's words are like flattery, but they pierce the inward parts of the body.

And say not rather - as men evil-speak of us, and as some affirm that we say - "Let us do evil, that good may come thereof." Whose damnation is just.

in honour and dishonour, in evil report and good report, as deceivers and yet true,

These six things doth the LORD hate, and the seventh he utterly abhorreth:

a false witness that bringeth up lies, and such one as soweth discord among brethren.

Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, not only because he had broken the Sabbath: but said also that God was his father and made himself equal with God.
