The rod and reproof give wisdom,
But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.
For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light;
And reproofs for discipline are the way of life
Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold
Is a wise reprover to a listening ear.
“Your own wickedness will correct you,
And your apostasies will reprove you;
Know therefore and see that it is evil and bitter
For you to forsake the Lord your God,

We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction,
Poverty and shame will come to him who neglects discipline,
But he who regards reproof will be honored.
He whose ear listens to the life-giving reproof
Will dwell among the wise.
He who neglects discipline despises himself,
But he who listens to reproof acquires understanding.
Strike a scoffer and the naive may become shrewd,
But reprove one who has understanding and he will gain knowledge.
‘You shall not hate your fellow countryman in your heart; you may surely reprove your neighbor, but shall not incur sin because of him.
A rebuke goes deeper into one who has understanding
Than a hundred blows into a fool.
He who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor
Than he who flatters with the tongue.
It is better to listen to the rebuke of a wise man
Than for one to listen to the song of fools.
He who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself,
And he who reproves a wicked man gets insults for himself.
Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you,
Reprove a wise man and he will love you.
“Do you intend to reprove my words,
When the words of one in despair belong to the wind?
They hate him who reproves in the gate,
And they abhor him who speaks with integrity.
