For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness.

But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

Also he told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

though I myself have reasons for confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth.

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law, justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "Today," so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Therefore let no one judge you in questions of food or drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day. These things are only a shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. Let no one disqualify you for the prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, puffed up without cause by his fleshly mind,

You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen away from grace.

The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they scoffed at him.

Then some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this, and said to him, "Are we blind also?" Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, 'We see,' your sin remains.

You say, "I am rich; I have become wealthy, and have need of nothing"and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked, Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments to clothe you, and to keep the shame of your nakedness from being seen; and salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.
