for whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth." If ye endure chastening, God treateth you as sons; for what son is there, whom the father doth not chastise?
Now if we had fathers of our flesh, who corrected us, and we gave them reverence; shall we not much more be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?
Behold then what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God: though for this reason the world knoweth us not, because it knew not Him. Beloved, we are now the children of God, but it doth not yet appear what we shall be: we know however, that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doth not practise righteousness, and he who loveth not his brother, is not of God:
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He, that is in you, than he that is in the world.
He that overcometh shall inherit all things, and I will be a God to him, and he shall be to me a son.
