'One' in the Bible

She weeps bitterly in the nightAnd her tears are [constantly] on her cheeks;Among all her lovers (political allies)She has no one to comfort her.All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;They have become her enemies.

The roads to Zion are in mourningBecause no one comes to the appointed feasts.All her gates are desolate;Her priests are groaning,Her virgins are grieved and suffering,And she suffers bitterly.

“I weep for these things;My eyes overflow with tears,Because a comforter,One who could restore my soul, is far away from me.My children are desolate and perishing,For the enemy has prevailed.”

You [Lord] called as in the day of an appointed feastMy terrors (dangers) on every side;And there was no one who escaped or survivedIn the day of the Lord’s anger.Those I have cared for and brought up with tenderness,My enemy annihilated them.

It is good that one waits quietlyFor the salvation of the Lord.

Let him give his cheek to the one who strikes him;Let him be filled with reproach.

Why should any living mortal, or any man,Complain [of punishment] in view of his sins?

The tongue of the infant clingsTo the roof of its mouth because of thirst;The little ones ask for food,But no one gives it to them.

[And as for us,] yet our eyes failed,Looking in vain for help.Watching [from the towers] we watchedFor a nation that could not save.
