'Children' in the Bible

The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven.His eyes see, His eyelids test the children of men.

The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the children of menTo see if there are any who understand (act wisely),Who [truly] seek after God, [longing for His wisdom and guidance].

From men with Your hand, O Lord,From men of the world [these moths of the night] whose portion [of enjoyment] is in this life—idle and vain,And whose belly You fill with Your treasure;They are satisfied with children,And they leave what they have left [of wealth] to their children.

Their offspring You will destroy from the earth,And their descendants from the sons of men.

Come, you children, listen to me;I will teach you to fear the Lord [with awe-inspired reverence and worship Him with obedience].

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!The children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.

You are fairer than the sons of men;Graciousness is poured upon Your lips;Therefore God has blessed You forever.

God has looked down from heaven upon the children of menTo see if there is anyone who understands,Who seeks after God [who requires Him, who longs for Him as essential to life].

Come and see the works of God,He is awesome in His deeds toward the children of men.

I have become estranged from my brothersAnd an alien to my mother’s sons.

The descendants of His servants will inherit it,And those who love His name will dwell in it.

May he bring justice to the poor among the people,Save the children of the needyAnd crush the oppressor,

If I had said, “I will say this,” [and expressed my feelings],I would have betrayed the generation of Your children.

We will not hide them from their children,But [we will] tell to the generation to come the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,And [tell of] His great might and power and the wonderful works that He has done.

For He established a testimony (a specific precept) in JacobAnd appointed a law in Israel,Which He commanded our fathersThat they should teach to their children [the great facts of God’s transactions with Israel],

That the generation to come might know them, that the children still to be bornMay arise and recount them to their children,

The sons of Ephraim were armed as archers and carrying bows,Yet they turned back in the day of battle.

I said, “You are gods;Indeed, all of you are sons of the Most High.

Assyria also has joined with them;They have helped the children of Lot [the Ammonites and the Moabites] and have been an arm [of strength] to them. Selah.

“If his children turn away from My lawAnd do not walk in My ordinances,

Let Your work [the signs of Your power] be revealed to Your servantsAnd Your [glorious] majesty to their children.

You who love the Lord, hate evil;He protects the souls of His godly ones (believers),He rescues them from the hand of the wicked.

“The children of Your servants will continue,And their descendants will be established before You.”

He made known His ways [of righteousness and justice] to Moses,His acts to the children of Israel.

Just as a father loves his children,So the Lord loves those who fear and worship Him [with awe-filled respect and deepest reverence].

But the lovingkindness of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who [reverently] fear Him,And His righteousness to children’s children,

O you offspring of Abraham, His servant,O you sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!

Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness,And for His wonderful acts to the children of men!

He makes the barren woman live in the houseAs a joyful mother of children.Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)

May the Lord give you [great] increase,You and your children.

The heavens are the heavens of the Lord,But the earth He has given to the children of men.

Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the Lord,The fruit of the womb a reward.

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,So are the children of one’s youth.

Your wife shall be like a fruitful vineWithin the innermost part of your house;Your children will be like olive plantsAround your table.

Indeed, may you see your [family perpetuated in your] children’s children.Peace be upon Israel!

“If your children will keep My covenantAnd My testimony which I will teach them,Their children also shall sit upon your throne forever.”

I know [with confidence] that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted,And [will secure] justice for the poor.

For He has strengthened the bars of your gates,He has blessed your children within you.

Both young men and virgins;Old men and children.

Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;Let Zion’s children rejoice in their King.
