'Mind' in the Bible
Let your mind be turned to your Maker in the days of your strength, while the evil days come not, and the years are far away when you will say, I have no pleasure in them;
I explored with my mind how to let my body enjoy life with wine and how to grasp folly—my mind still guiding me with wisdom—until I could see what is good for people to do under heaven during the few days of their lives.
I applied my mind to seek and explore through wisdom all that is done under heaven. God has given people this miserable task to keep them occupied.
I applied my mind to know wisdom and knowledge, madness and folly; I learned that this too is a pursuit of the wind.
All this I have seen, applying my mind to all the work that is done under the sun, at a time when one man has authority over another to his harm.
I said to myself, “Look, I have amassed wisdom far beyond all those who were over Jerusalem before me, and my mind has thoroughly grasped wisdom and knowledge.”
Even in thy mind a king revile not, And in the inner parts of thy bed-chamber Revile not the rich: For a fowl of the heavens causeth the voice to go, And a possessor of wings declareth the word.
The words of the wise are like [prodding] goads, and these collected sayings are [firmly fixed in the mind] like well-driven nails; they are given by one Shepherd.
When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the activity that is done on the earth (even though one’s eyes do not close in sleep day or night),
Whenever a sentence for a crime is not carried out swiftly, the human mind becomes determined to commit evil.
I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure and gratification; so enjoy yourself and have a good time.” But behold, this too was vanity (futility, meaninglessness).
So enjoy yourself in your youth, young man, and be encouraged during your younger days. Live as you like, consistent with your world view, but keep in mind that God will bring you to account for everything.
Banish emotional stress from your mind. and put away pain from your body; for youth and the prime of life are fleeting.
Indeed, if a man should live many years, let him rejoice in them all, and let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. Everything that is to come will be futility.
Sorrow is better than joy; when the face is sad the mind gets better.
I directed my mind to know, to investigate and to seek wisdom and an explanation, and to know the evil of folly and the foolishness of madness.
For all his days are filled with grief, and his occupation is sorrowful; even at night, his mind does not rest. This too is futile.
Surely, the practice of extortion turns a wise person into a fool,and a bribe destroys the mind.
So my mind was turned to grief for all the trouble I had taken and all my wisdom under the sun.
The mind of the wise is in the house of mourning,While the mind of fools is in the house of pleasure.
Whoever keeps and observes a royal command will experience neither trouble nor misery;For a wise heart will know the proper time and [appropriate] procedure.
Guard your steps and focus on what you are doing as you go to the house of God and draw near to listen rather than to offer the [careless or irreverent] sacrifice of fools; for they are too ignorant to know they are doing evil.
