who gave Himself for our sins, to save us from the present wicked world in accordance with the will of our God and Father;

We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the power of the evil one.

so that you may prove to be blameless and spotless, faultless children of God in a crooked and perverted age, in which you shine as light-bearers in the world as you continue

Practice occupying your minds with the things above, not with the things on earth;

training us to give up godless ways and worldly cravings and live serious, upright, and godly lives in this world,

A religious worship that is pure and stainless in the sight of God the Father is this: To look after orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep one's own self unstained by the world.

As obedient children, stop molding your character by the evil desires you used to cherish when you did not know any better,

This very night your soul is to be demanded of you. Then who will have all that you have prepared?' So it is with the man who continues to pile up possessions for himself, and is not rich in God."

For what benefit will it be to a man to gain the whole world and lose or forfeit himself?

For what benefit will it be to a man, if he gains the whole world and loses his higher life? What price would a man pay to buy back his life?

For what benefit will it be to a man to gain the whole world and fail to gain the higher life?

And what was sown among the thorns illustrates the man who hears the message, and the worries of the times and the pleasures of being rich choke the truth out, and he yields no fruit.

for Demas has forsaken me because he loved the present world, and has gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia;

But since we do bring down upon us this judgment, we are being disciplined by the Lord, so that finally we may not be condemned along with the world.

So you, too, must always be ready, for at an hour that you are not expecting, the Son of Man will come."

But as to times and dates, brothers, you have no need of anyone's writing you, for you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the Lord is coming like a thief in the night. When people say, "Such peace and security!" then suddenly destruction falls upon them, like birth pains upon a woman who is about to become a mother, but they shall not escape, no, not at all.read more.
But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that that day, like a thief, should take you by surprise; for you are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. So let us stop sleeping as others do, but let us stay awake and keep sober. For those who sleep at night and those who get drunk are drunken at night, but let us who belong to the day keep sober, clothed with faith and love for a coat of mail and with the hope of salvation for a helmet. For God appointed us not to reap His wrath but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
