Then the devil taketh Him into the holy city, and setteth Him on a wing of the temple, and saith unto Him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written, He will give his angels charge concerning thee, and they shall bear thee up as in their hands, least at any time thou shouldst dash thy foot against a stone: but Jesus said unto him, it is also written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again the devil taketh Him to a very high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto Him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me: then Jesus saith unto him, Be gone, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil left Him, and behold angels came and attended Him.
Now Jesus being full of the holy Spirit, returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted by the devil; and He did eat nothing in all those days: and when they were ended, at last He was hungry. And the devil said to Him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.read more.

And Jesus answered him, it is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from Him for a time.
Then Peter took Him and began to expostulate with Him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: may this never be unto thee. But He turned and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan, thou art an offence to me; for thou regardest not the things of God, but those that be of men.
Jesus having said these things was troubled in spirit, and He openly testified and said, Verily, verily I tell you, that one of you will betray me. The disciples therefore looked on one another, doubting of whom He spake. Now there was one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, sitting next Him.read more.
Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him to ask, who it was concerning whom He spake. And he, reclining on the breast of Jesus, saith unto Him, Lord, who is it? Jesus answered, It is he to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it: and He dipped in a sop and gave it to Judas the Iscariot the son of Simon. And after the sop Satan entred into him. Then Jesus saith unto him, What thou dost, do quickly.
But the pharisees went out of the synagogue and took counsel together against Him, how they might destroy Him:

And as soon as it was morning all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, how to get Him executed:
For this therefore the Jews sought the more to kill Him, because He had not only broken the sabbath, but had also called God his own Father, making Himself equal with God.
After these things Jesus resided in Galilee: for He would not appear in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him.
For unto this are ye called; because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye might follow his steps. Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously.read more.

And as soon as ever it was light the chief priests holding a consultation with the elders and scribes, they and the whole sanhedrim, bound Jesus, and carried Him away, and delivered Him to Pilate.
Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the pretorium: (now it was morning) and they themselves went not in to the court, least they should be defiled, and so might not eat of the passover. Therefore Pilate went out to them, and said, What accusation do ye bring against this man? They answered him, If He were not a malefactor, we should not have delivered Him to thee.read more.
Then said Pilate to them, Take Him, and judge Him according to your law. But the Jews said to him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: that what Jesus had said might be fulfilled, signifying by what death He should die.

and he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art Thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus the Nazarene whom thou art persecuting: it is hard for thee to kick against the goads. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise and go into the city, and it shall be told thee, what thou must do.
And I persecuted those of this persuasion even unto death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women. As the high priest is my witness, and all the elders: from whom I received letters to our brethren, and went to Damascus to bring those also, that were there, bound to Jerusalem, to be punished.
I indeed once thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus the Nazarene: which I also did in Jerusalem; and I shut up many of the saints in prison, having received authority for it from the chief priests; and when they were put to death I gave my voice against them. And often punishing them in all the synagogues, I compelled them to blaspheme, and being excessively enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.
For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son; much more being reconciled shall we be saved by his life.
(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction,
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up what is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for the sake of his body, which is the church.
For he must reign till He hath put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy that is destroyed is death:
saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, "Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?"
For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he himself says, "The Lord said to my Lord,
Wherefore God hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name above every name: that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of celestial beings, as well as of those on earth, and of those under the earth; and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
seeing it is a righteous thing with God to render affliction to those that afflict you; and to you, who are in trouble, rest with us, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven, with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, taking vengeance on those who know not God, and who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:read more.
who shall be punished with everlasting destruction, by the presence of the Lord and by his glorious power: in that day, when He shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe; because our testimony among you was believed.
Let not any one deceive you by any means; for it shall not come till there come an apostasy first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or the object of worship; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. And ye know what now hindereth him from being revealed in his own time. For the mystery of iniquity is already working, only there is one that hindreth till he be taken out of the way. And then the wicked one shall be detected, whom the Lord will destroy by the breath of his mouth, and abolish by the brightness of his coming:
But to which of the angels hath He ever said, "Sit thou at my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?"
