And they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And He said unto them, I am. And they said, What need have we of any farther evidence? when we ourselves have it from his own mouth?

And the child grew, and became strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests, in order to betray Him unto them. And they were glad, when they heard it, and engaged to give him money. And he sought to betray Him at a proper season.

And while He was yet speaking, behold, Judas one of the twelve came, and with him a great number, with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people: (now he that betrayed Him, had given them a signal, saying, The man whom I shall kiss is He, lay hold of Him:) and going directly up to Jesus, he said, Hail master, and kissed Him. read more.

But at last came two false witnesses and said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. Then the high priest said to Him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us, if thou be the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus saith unto him, It is as thou hast said: and I tell you, hereafter ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. And a little after, they that stood by came to Peter and said, Verily thou also art one of them, for thy speech discovers thee: then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who had said to him, before the cock crow, thou wilt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

Now the chief priests and all the council sought for evidence against Jesus, to put Him to death, and found none: for many bare false witness against Him, and the evidences did not agree. At last there rose up some and bare false witness against Him, saying, We heard Him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands: but neither was their evidence consistent. Then the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus saying, Answerest thou nothing? what do these men witness against thee? but he held his peace, and made him no answer. So the high priest asked Him again, and saith to Him, Art thou the Messiah the Son of the blessed God? And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. And he went out into the porch, and the cock crew. And the maid seeing him again said to them that stood by, This is one of them: and he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by, said to Peter again, Thou art certainly one of them: for thou art a Galilean, and thy speech is like theirs. But he began to curse and swear saying, I do not know this man of whom ye speak: And the cock crowed a second time. Then Peter called to mind the word which Jesus had said to him, Before the cock crow twice thou wilt deny me thrice. And he covered his face and wept.

And while He was yet speaking, behold a multitude; and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve apostles, came before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss Him: and Jesus said to him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss? And about an hour after, another confidently affirmed saying, In truth this fellow also was with Him; for he is a Galilean too: but Peter answered, Man, I know not what thou sayst. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, the cock crew. And the Lord turned and looked upon Peter; and Peter called to mind the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, Before the cock crow thou wilt deny me thrice. And Peter went out and wept bitterly. Why dost thou ask me? ask them that heard me, what I have said unto them: for they know what I have said. And upon his saying these things, one of the officers that stood by struck Jesus, saying, Dost thou answer the high-priest thus? Jesus answered him, If I have ever spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why dost thou strike me? Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the pretorium: (now it was morning) and they themselves went not in to the court, least they should be defiled, and so might not eat of the passover. Therefore Pilate went out to them, and said, What accusation do ye bring against this man? They answered him, If He were not a malefactor, we should not have delivered Him to thee. Then said Pilate to them, Take Him, and judge Him according to your law. But the Jews said to him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: that what Jesus had said might be fulfilled, signifying by what death He should die. Pilate therefore went into the palace again, and called Jesus and said to Him, Art thou the king of the Jews? Jesus answered him, Dost thou say this from thyself, or did others tell it thee of me? Pilate replied, Am I a Jew? thine own nation, and the chief priests, have delivered thee to me: what hast thou done? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have fought, that I might not have been delivered to the Jews: but my kingdom is not from hence. Pilate therefore said unto Him, Art thou then a king? Jesus answered, Thou sayest right, I am a king. For this end was I born, and for this came I into the world, even that I might bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto Him, What is truth? And as soon as he had spoke, he went out again to the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no fault at all in Him. But ye have a custom, that I should release to you one at the passover; will ye therefore that I release to you the king of the Jews? Then they all cried out again, saying, Not Him, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

and behold, there was a man named Zaccheus, who was the chief publican, and very rich. And he sought to see Jesus who He was; but he could not for the croud; for he was little of stature. And he went away and came into their synagogue: and there being a man there who had a withered hand, they asked Him, if it were lawful to heal on the sabbath-days? that they might accuse Him. But He said unto them, What man of you shall have one of his sheep fall into a pit on the sabbath-day, and will not lay hold of it and lift it out? read more.
