'Know' in the Bible

But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" -- then he said to the paralytic -- "Stand up, take your stretcher, and go home."

He replied, "You have been given the opportunity to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but they have not.

Then the disciples came to him and said, "Do you know that when the Pharisees heard this saying they were offended?"

and in the morning, 'It will be stormy today, because the sky is red and darkening.' You know how to judge correctly the appearance of the sky, but you cannot evaluate the signs of the times.

Jesus answered, "You don't know what you are asking! Are you able to drink the cup I am about to drink?" They said to him, "We are able."

But Jesus called them and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions use their authority over them.

So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Then he said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

They sent to him their disciples along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You do not court anyone's favor because you show no partiality.

"Learn this parable from the fig tree: Whenever its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near.

But he denied it in front of them all: "I don't know what you're talking about!"

But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins," -- he said to the paralytic --

He strictly ordered that no one should know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

After Jesus left there, he went to the region of Tyre. When he went into a house, he did not want anyone to know, but he was not able to escape notice.

(For they were afraid, and he did not know what to say.)

They went out from there and passed through Galilee. But Jesus did not want anyone to know,

But Jesus said to them, "You don't know what you are asking! Are you able to drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I experience?"

Jesus called them and said to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions use their authority over them.

So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Then Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."

When they came they said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are truthful and do not court anyone's favor, because you show no partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn't we?"

"Learn this parable from the fig tree: Whenever its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near.

So also you, when you see these things happening, know that he is near, right at the door.

Stay alert, then, because you do not know when the owner of the house will return -- whether during evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or at dawn --

When he came again he found them sleeping; they could not keep their eyes open. And they did not know what to tell him.

Then he began to curse, and he swore with an oath, "I do not know this man you are talking about!"

But when the feast was over, as they were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it,

Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner."

But Jesus said, "Someone touched me, for I know that power has gone out from me."

Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this: The kingdom of God has come.'

But the one who did not know his master's will and did things worthy of punishment will receive a light beating. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be asked.

You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how can you not know how to interpret the present time?

Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, then you will stand outside and start to knock on the door and beg him, 'Lord, let us in!' But he will answer you, 'I don't know where you come from.'

But he will reply, 'I don't know where you come from! Go away from me, all you evildoers!'

I know what to do so that when I am put out of management, people will welcome me into their homes.'

When he returned after receiving the kingdom, he summoned these slaves to whom he had given the money. He wanted to know how much they had earned by trading.

So they replied that they did not know where it came from.

Thus they asked him, "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, and show no partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.

When they sprout leaves, you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near.

So also you, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.

But Peter denied it: "Woman, I don't know him!"

But Peter said, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" At that moment, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.

Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who doesn't know the things that have happened there in these days?"

Nathanael asked him, "How do you know me?" Jesus replied, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."

came to Jesus at night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs that you do unless God is with him."

The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (the one called Christ); "whenever he comes, he will tell us everything."

But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you know nothing about."

But the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped out, since there was a crowd in that place.

There is another who testifies about me, and I know the testimony he testifies about me is true.

and they said, "Isn't this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?"

Then the Jewish leaders were astonished and said, "How does this man know so much when he has never had formal instruction?"

Yet here he is, speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to him. Do the rulers really know that this man is the Christ?

But we know where this man comes from. Whenever the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from."

Then Jesus, while teaching in the temple courts, cried out, "You both know me and know where I come from! And I have not come on my own initiative, but the one who sent me is true. You do not know him,

But this rabble who do not know the law are accursed!"

Jesus answered, "Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you people do not know where I came from or where I am going.

I know that you are Abraham's descendants. But you want to kill me, because my teaching makes no progress among you.

Then the Judeans responded, "Now we know you're possessed by a demon! Both Abraham and the prophets died, and yet you say, 'If anyone obeys my teaching, he will never experience death.'

Yet you do not know him, but I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you. But I do know him, and I obey his teaching.

They said to him, "Where is that man?" He replied, "I don't know."

So his parents replied, "We know that this is our son and that he was born blind.

But we do not know how he is now able to see, nor do we know who caused him to see. Ask him, he is a mature adult. He will speak for himself."

Then they summoned the man who used to be blind a second time and said to him, "Promise before God to tell the truth. We know that this man is a sinner."

He replied, "I do not know whether he is a sinner. I do know one thing -- that although I was blind, now I can see."
