'People' in the Bible

Wherever people live—or wild animals, or birds of the air—He has handed them over to you and made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.

King Nebuchadnezzar, To those of every people, nation, and language, who live in all the earth: May your prosperity increase.

The kingdom, dominion, and greatness of the kingdoms under all of heaven will be given to the people, the holy ones of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will serve and obey Him.’

His power will be great,but it will not be his own.He will cause terrible destructionand succeed in whatever he does.He will destroy the powerfulalong with the holy people.

We have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, leaders, fathers, and all the people of the land.

Now, Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and made Your name renowned as it is this day, we have sinned, we have acted wickedly.

Lord, in keeping with all Your righteous acts, may Your anger and wrath turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; for because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become an object of ridicule to all those around us.

Lord, hear! Lord, forgive! Lord, listen and act! My God, for Your own sake, do not delay, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.

The same judgment will happento both people and priests.I will punish them for their waysand repay them for their deeds.

My people consult their wooden idols,and their divining rods inform them.For a spirit of promiscuity leads them astray;they act promiscuouslyin disobedience to their God.

I will not punish your daughterswhen they act promiscuouslyor your daughters-in-lawwhen they commit adultery,for the men themselves go off with prostitutesand make sacrifices with cult prostitutes.People without discernment are doomed.

I will indeed gather all of you, Jacob;I will collect the remnant of Israel.I will bring them together like sheep in a pen,like a flock in the middle of its fold.It will be noisy with people.

You hate good and love evil.You tear off people’s skinand strip their flesh from their bones.

You eat the flesh of my peopleafter you strip their skin from themand break their bones.You chop them uplike flesh for the cooking pot,like meat in a cauldron.”

This is what the Lord saysconcerning the prophetswho lead my people astray,who proclaim peacewhen they have food to sink their teeth intobut declare war against the onewho puts nothing in their mouths.

Therefore, He will abandon them until the timewhen she who is in labor has given birth;then the rest of His brothers will returnto the people of Israel.

Listen to the Lord’s lawsuit,you mountains and enduring foundations of the earth,because the Lord has a case against His people,and He will argue it against Israel.

My people, what have I done to you,or how have I wearied you?Testify against Me!

My people,remember what Balak king of Moab proposed,what Balaam son of Beor answered him,and what happened from the Acacia Grove to Gilgalso that you may acknowledgethe Lord’s righteous acts.

The statutes of Omriand all the practices of Ahab’s househave been observed;you have followed their policies.Therefore, I will make you a desolate placeand the city’s residents an object of contempt;you will bear the scorn of My people.”

Godly people have vanished from the land;there is no one upright among the people.All of them wait in ambush to shed blood;they hunt each other with a net.

On that day people will come to youfrom Assyria and the cities of Egypt,even from Egypt to the Euphrates Riverand from sea to seaand mountain to mountain.

Shepherd Your people with Your staff,the flock that is Your possession.They live alone in a woodlandsurrounded by pastures.Let them graze in Bashan and Gileadas in ancient times.

King of Assyria, your shepherds slumber;your officers sleep.Your people are scattered across the mountainswith no one to gather them together.

You come out to save Your people,to save Your anointed.You crush the leader of the house of the wickedand strip him from foot to neck.Selah

I heard, and I trembled within;my lips quivered at the sound.Rottenness entered my bones;I trembled where I stood.Now I must quietly wait for the day of distressto come against the people invading us.

I have heard the taunting of Moaband the insults of the Ammonites,who have taunted My peopleand threatened their territory.

Therefore, as I live—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts,the God of Israel—Moab will be like Sodomand the Ammonites like Gomorrah—a place overgrown with weeds,a salt pit, and a perpetual wasteland.The remnant of My people will plunder them;the remainder of My nation will dispossess them.

This is what they get for their pride,because they have taunted and acted arrogantlyagainst the people of the Lord of Hosts.
