Peter's Sermon On The Day Of Pentecost
14 But, taking his stand, Peter with the eleven lifted up his voice, and sounded out unto them - Ye men of Judaea, and all ye who are sojourning in Jerusalem! Let, this, unto you be known, and give ear unto my declarations; -
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
14 But Peter, (o)taking his stand with (S)the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words.
14 But Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them: “Men of Judah and all you residents of Jerusalem, let me explain this(b) to you and pay attention to my words.
14 Then Peter stood up among the eleven apostles and raised his voice to address them:
15 For not, as, ye, suppose, are these men drunken, for it is the third hour of the day; -
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
15 "Men of Judea and everyone living in Jerusalem! You must understand something, so pay close attention to my words. These men are not drunk as you suppose, for it's only nine o'clock in the morning.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
16 but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:
16 On the contrary, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
16 Rather, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
17 And it shall be, in the last days saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and, your young men, visions shall see and, your elders, in dreams shall dream, -
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

17 And it will be in the last days, says God,that I will pour out My Spirit on all humanity;then your sons and your daughters will prophesy,your young men will see visions,and your old men will dream dreams.(K)
17 "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on everyone. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
18 And, even upon my men-servants and upon my maid-servants in those days, will I pour out of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy;
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
18 Even on My bondslaves, both men and women,I will in those days pour forth of My SpiritAnd they shall prophesy.
18 I will even pour out My Spiriton My male and female slaves in those days,and they will prophesy.(L)
18 In those days I will even pour out my Spirit on my slaves, men and women alike, and they will prophesy.
19 And I will set forth wonders in the heaven above, and signs upon the earth beneath, - blood and fire and vapour of smoke:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
19 ‘And I will grant wonders in the sky aboveAnd signs on the earth below,Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.
19 I will display wonders in the heaven aboveand signs on the earth below:blood and fire and a cloud of smoke.
19 I will display wonders in the sky above and signs on the earth below: blood, fire, and clouds of smoke.
20 The sun, shall be turned into darkness and, the moon, into blood, - before the coming of the day of the Lord, the great and manifest day ;

22 Ye men of Israel! hear these words: - Jesus the Nazarene, a man pointed out of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs, which God did through him in your midst, just as ye yourselves know,
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
22 “Men of Israel, listen to these words: (W)Jesus the Nazarene, (X)a man (r)attested to you by God with (s)miracles and (Y)wonders and (t)signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know—
22 “Men of Israel, listen to these words: This Jesus the Nazarene was a man pointed out to you by God with miracles, wonders, and signs that God did among you through Him, just as you yourselves know.(P)
22 "Fellow Israelis, listen to these words: Jesus from Nazareth was a man authenticated to you by God through miracles, wonders, and signs that God performed through him among you, as you yourselves know.
23 The same, by the marked out counsel and foreknowledge of God given up, through the hands of lawless men, suspending, ye slew,
23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
23 this Man, delivered over by the (Z)predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, (AA)you nailed to a cross by the hands of (u)godless men and put Him to death.
23 Though He was delivered up according to God’s determined plan and foreknowledge, you used(e) lawless people(f) to nail Him to a cross and kill Him.(Q)
23 After he was arrested according to the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified this very man and killed him using the hands of lawless men.
24 Whom, God, raised up, loosing the pangs of death, inasmuch as it was, not possible, for him to continue held fast by it.
24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
24 (v)But (AB)God raised Him up again, putting an end to the (w)agony of death, since it (AC)was impossible for Him to be held (x)in its power.
24 God raised Him up, ending the pains of death,(R) because it was not possible for Him to be held by it.
24 But God raised him up and put an end to suffering of death, since it was impossible for him to be held by it,
25 For, David, saith concerning him - I foresaw the Lord before me continually, because he is, on my right hand, that I may not be shaken;
25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
25 For David says of Him,‘(AD)I saw the Lord always in my presence;For He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken.
25 For David says of Him:I saw the Lord ever before me;because He is at my right hand,I will not be shaken.
25 since David says about him, "I always keep my eyes on the Lord, for he is at my right hand so that I cannot be shaken.
26 For this reason, was my heart made glad and my tongue exulted, - ye further, even my flesh, shall encamp on hope:
26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
26 ‘Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exulted;Moreover my flesh also will live in hope;
26 Therefore my heart was glad,and my tongue rejoiced.Moreover, my flesh will rest in hope,
26 That is why my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices, yes, even my body still rests securely in hope.
27 Because thou wilt not abandon my soul unto hades, neither wilt thou give thy man of lovingkindness to see corruption;
27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
27 Because You will not abandon my soul to (AE)Hades,(AF)Nor (y)allow Your (z)Holy One to (aa)undergo decay.
27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades or allow your Holy One to experience decay.
28 Thou madest known unto me paths of life, thou wilt make me full of gladness with thy countenance.
28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
28 ‘You have made known to me the ways of life;You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.’
28 You have made the ways of life known to me, and you will fill me with gladness in your presence.'
29 Brethren! it is, allowable, to say with freedom of speech unto you, concerning the patriarch David, - that he both died and was buried, and, his tomb, is among us until this day.
29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
29 “(ab)Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the (AG)patriarch David that he both (AH)died and (AI)was buried, and (AJ)his tomb is (ac)with us to this day.
29 “Brothers, I can confidently speak to you about the patriarch David: He is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.(U)
29 "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and that his tomb is among us to this day.
30 Being then, a prophet, and knowing that, with an oath, God had sworn unto him, of the fruit of his loins, to seat on his throne,
30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
30 And so, because he was (AK)a prophet and knew that (AL)God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one (ad)of his descendants on his throne,
30 Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn an oath to him to seat one of his descendants(h)(i) on his throne.(V)
30 Therefore, since he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him with an oath to put one of his descendants on his throne,
31 With foresight, spake he concerning the resurrection of the Christ - that neither was he abandoned unto hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.
31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of (ae)the Christ, that (AM)He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh (af)suffer decay.
31 Seeing this in advance, he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Messiah:He(j) was not left in Hades,and His flesh did not experience decay.(W)(k)
31 he looked ahead and spoke about the resurrection of the Messiah: "He was not abandoned to Hades, and his flesh did not experience decay.'
33 By the right hand of God, therefore, having been exalted, also, the promise of the Holy Spirit, having received from the Father, He hath poured out this which, yourselves, do see and hear.
33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
33 Therefore having been exalted (ag)(AP)to the right hand of God, and (AQ)having received from the Father (AR)the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has (AS)poured forth this which you both see and hear.
33 Therefore, since He has been exalted to the right hand of God(Y) and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit,(Z) He has poured out(AA) what you both see and hear.
33 He has been exalted to the right hand of God, has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, and has caused you to experience what you are seeing and hearing.
34 For, David, hath not ascended into the heavens; but he saith, himself, - Said the Lord unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand,
34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
34 For it was not David who ascended into (ah)heaven, but he himself says:‘(AT)The Lord said to my Lord,“Sit at My right hand,
34 For it was not David who ascended into the heavens, but he himself says:The Lord declared to my Lord,‘Sit at My right hand
34 After all, David did not go up to heaven, but he said, "The Lord told my Lord, "Sit at my right hand,
The Response To Peter's Sermon
36 And, when they heard this, they were pricked to the heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles - What are we to do, brethren?
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
36 Therefore let all the (AU)house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both (AV)Lord and (ai)Christ—this Jesus (AW)whom you crucified.”
36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah!”(AC)
36 "Therefore, let all the people of Israel understand beyond a doubt that God made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah!"
37 And Peter said unto them - Repent ye, and let each one of you be immersed, in the name of Jesus Christ, into the remission of your sins, - and ye shall receive the free-gift of the Holy Spirit;
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
37 Now when they heard this, they were (aj)pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “(ak)Brethren, (al)(AX)what shall we do?”
37 When they heard this, they came under deep conviction(m) and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: “Brothers, what must we do?”(AD)
37 When the crowd that had gathered heard this, they were pierced to the heart. They asked Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?"
38 For, unto you, is the promise, and unto your children, - and unto all them who are afar off: as many soever as the Lord our God shall call unto him.
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
38 Peter said to them, “(AY)Repent, and each of you be (AZ)baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
38 “Repent,”(AE) Peter said to them, “and be baptized,(AF) each of you, in the name(AG) of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
38 Peter answered them, "Every one of you must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus the Messiah for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift.
39 And, with many different words, bare he frail witness, and went on exhorting them saying - Be saved from this perverse generation!
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
39 For (BA)the promise is for you and your children and for all who are (BB)far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”
39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off,(n)(AH) as many as the Lord our God will call.”
39 For this promise belongs to you and your children, as well as to all those who are distant, whom the Lord our God may call to himself."
A Generous And Growing Church
40 They, therefore, who welcomed his word, were immersed; and there were added, on that day, about three thousand souls.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
40 And with many other words he solemnly (BC)testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “(am)Be saved from this (BD)perverse generation!”
40 And with many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, “Be saved from this corrupt(o) generation!”(AI)
40 Using many different expressions, Peter continued to testify and to plead: "Be saved," he urged them, "from this corrupt generation!"
The Fellowship Of The First Believers
41 And they went on to give constant attention - unto the teaching of the apostles, and unto the fellowship, unto the breaking of bread, and unto the prayers.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand (an)(BE)souls.
41 So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about 3,000 people were added to them.
41 So those who welcomed his message were baptized. That day about 3,000 people were added to their number.
Life Among The Believers
42 And there came on every soul, fear, and, many wonders and signs, through means of the apostles, were coming to pass.
42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
42 They were (BF)continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to (BG)the breaking of bread and (ao)(BH)to prayer.
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching,(AJ) to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers.(AK)
42 The believers continued to devote themselves to what the apostles were teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to times of prayer.
43 And, all who believed, with one accord, began to hold all things common;
43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
43 (ap)Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many (BI)wonders and (aq)signs were taking place through the apostles.
43 Then fear came over everyone, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles.(AL)
43 A sense of fear came over everyone, and many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles.
45 And, daily giving attendance with one intent in the temple and, at home, breaking bread, they were partaking of food with exultation and singleness of heart;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
45 and they (BK)began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.
45 They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as anyone had a need.(p)
45 They made it their practice to sell their possessions and goods and to distribute the proceeds to anyone who was in need.
46 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And, the Lord, was adding them who were being saved, daily, together.
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
46 (BL)Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and (BM)breaking bread (as)from house to house, they were taking their (at)meals together with gladness and (au)sincerity of heart,
46 Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude,(AN)
46 United in purpose, they went to the Temple every day, ate at each other's homes, and shared their food with glad and humble hearts.
