1 After these things happened Jesus went across to the east side of Lake Galilee, also called Lake Tiberias. [Note: This lake also bore a name honoring the Roman Emperor Tiberias].

29 Jesus answered them, "This is the deed that God requires: You should believe in Him whom God has sent [i.e., in Jesus]."

42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?

43 Jesus answered them, "Stop complaining among yourselves.

53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of (CG)the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.

54 Anyone who eats My flesh and drinks My blood(BL) has eternal life, and I will raise(BM) him up on the last day,
54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I'll raise him to life on the last day,
55 For my physical body is real food and my blood is [the] real drink.
55 For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
55 because My flesh is real food and My blood is real drink.

57 Just as the living Father has sent me, and I have [physical and spiritual] life because of the Father, so the person who eats me will also have [physical ? and spiritual] life because of me.
57 As the (CJ)living Father (CK)sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

58 This is the bread that came down from heaven [i.e., Jesus is referring to Himself]. [It is] not like [the bread] our forefathers ate and [then] died. The person who eats this bread will live forever."

58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

60 So, when they heard [these things], many of Jesus' disciples said, "This is difficult teaching. Who can listen to it [i.e., and accept it]?"
60 Therefore many of His (CQ)disciples, when they heard this said, “(CR)This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?”
60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
60 Therefore, when many of His disciples heard this, they said, “This teaching is hard! Who can accept(n) it?”
60 When many of his disciples heard this, they said, "This is a difficult statement. Who can accept it?"
61 But Jesus, knowing within Himself that His disciples were complaining about His teaching, said to them, "Does this [teaching] bother you?
61 But Jesus, (CS)conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this (CT)cause you to stumble?
61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
61 Jesus, knowing in Himself(BT) that His disciples were complaining about this, asked them, “Does this offend you?
61 But Jesus, knowing within himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, asked them, "Does this offend you?
63 It is the Holy Spirit who [Note: The Greek word here is "that" instead of "who"] gives life [i.e., understanding the spiritual nature of Jesus' teaching can produce spiritual life]; the flesh is of no value [i.e., understanding Jesus' teaching only in a physical sense makes it worthless]. The words I have spoken to you are [from the] Holy Spirit and [they give] life.
63 (CW)It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; (CX)the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
63 The Spirit(BW) is the One who gives life. The flesh doesn’t help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
63 It's the Spirit who gives life; the flesh accomplishes nothing. The words that I've spoken to you are spirit and life.
64 But there are some of you who do not believe [in me]." For Jesus knew from the beginning which ones would not believe [in Him] and which one would turn Him over [i.e., to the Jewish authorities].
64 But there are (CY)some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus (CZ)knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and (DA)who it was that would (j)betray Him.
64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
64 But there are some among you who don’t believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning(BX) those who would not(o) believe and the one who would betray(BY) Him.)
64 But there are some among you who don't believe..." - because Jesus knew from the beginning those who weren't believing, as well as the one who would betray him.
65 Then He said, "This is the reason I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father gives him [the opportunity. See verse 44]."
65 And He was saying, “For this reason I have (DB)said to you, that no one can come to Me unless (DC)it has been granted him from the Father.”
65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
65 He said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to Me(BZ) unless it is granted to him by the Father.”
65 So he said, "That's why I told you that no one can come to me unless it be granted him by the Father."
66 Upon [hearing] this, many of Jesus' disciples turned back and refused to accompany Him anymore. [Note: They deserted Jesus physically as well as spiritually].
66 As a result of this many of His (DD)disciples (DE)withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore.
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
66 From that moment many of His disciples turned back and no longer accompanied Him.
66 As a result, many of his disciples turned back and no longer associated with him.
70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose [all] twelve of you, and one of you is a devil?" [Note: The word "devil" means "adversary" or "opponent"].
70 Jesus answered them, “(DJ)Did I Myself not choose you, (DK)the twelve, and yet one of you is (DL)a devil?”
70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
70 Jesus answered them, "I chose you, the Twelve, didn't I? Yet one of you is a devil."
71 Now He was speaking about Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for he was the one, out of the twelve, who was [soon] going to turn Jesus over [to the Jewish authorities].
71 Now He meant Judas (DM)the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, (DN)one of (DO)the twelve, (k)was going to betray Him.
71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.
71 He was referring to Judas,(CF) Simon Iscariot’s son,(q)(r) one of the Twelve, because he was going to betray(CG) Him.
71 Now he was speaking about Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, because this man was going to betray him, even though he was one of the Twelve.
