And very early after dawn on the first day of the week, they came at the time of the coming up of the sun to the place where the body had been put.

Now when he came back from the dead early on the first day of the week, he went first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had sent out seven evil spirits.

So they went out, and ran from the tomb, for they were trembling and amazed; and they said nothing to any one, for they were afraid??9 Now after his resurrection, early on the first day of the week he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had driven out seven demons.

Then Jesus entered the Temple in Jerusalem, and after looking around at everything [there], He left for Bethany with the twelve apostles, since it was evening by then. [Note: Jesus stayed overnight at Bethany during the week prior to His crucifixion. See verse 19].

Now the Passover Festival and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were held two days later. [Note: This was the annual Jewish Festival week commemorating Israel's deliverance from Egyptian bondage under Moses' leadership. The unleavened bread was specially baked bread containing no yeast, which was eaten for seven days as part of the celebration]. And the leading priests and experts in the law of Moses were looking for a way to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him.

Now on the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread [i.e., the beginning of the Passover Festival week], when they sacrificed the Passover [lamb], Jesus' disciples said to Him, "Where do you want us to go to make preparations for you to eat the Passover meal?"

He answered him and said, "O generation without faith, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him unto me."

And Jesus said to them, Can the sons of the bridechamber fast as long as the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast,

who eat up the houses of widows, and, as a pretext, make long prayers: these shall receive more abundant condemnation.

And he said in his teaching, Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and love salutations in the markets,

And Pilate was surprised that he was dead; and, sending for the captain, he put a question to see if he had been dead for long.

And then began to salute him. "Long life to you, King of the Jews!" they said.

And they entered the tomb, and saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

And he asked his father, "How long is it ago, since this hath happened him?" And he said, "Of a child.

And rising in the morning long before day, he went out and went away into a desert place, and there prayed.
